Strava Segments not syncing Edge 1040

I cannot get my Strava starred segments or courses  to sync on my Garmin Edge 1040 Solar.  I upgraded from a 530 to the 1040 Solar (had no issues with 530 and segments) and always see the same "Sign into your Strava account using your Garmin Connect account" via the segments widget. I am signed in and see "segments" widget on my web-based connect dashboard with my starred Strava segments. In the garmin connect app I see that segments are also enabled.  Anyone else have the same problem?

I have tried these things....

1. Disconnected Strava from Garmin and reconnected (on Strava's website)

2. Disconnected Garmin from Strava and reconnected (via Garmin connect profile)

3. Added new segments in Strava to hopefully force a sync (unsuccessful )

4. Tried syncs with Phone

5. Tried syncs via Garmin express via USB-C Connector.

  • It seems to me that courses don't get synced to a new device like the rest of the settings, and there is nothing to prompt Garmin Connect to send the segments or courses to the 1040.

You can demonstrate this if you create a new dummy Course in Strava and it will pretty quickly appear on the 1040.

Basically, you just need to give Garmin Connect a "kick in the pants" to send them across to the new device.

This is what I did to get it to work (after making sure my Gamin Connect is linked to Strava, and is set to sync Courses).

    1. In Strava on the browser, un-star all the courses I had starred.
    2. In Garmin Connect on the browser, delete those same courses
    3. Back in Strava, re-star the courses
    4. Observe the courses automatically appear again in Garmin Connect on the browser
    5. Run a Sync from my Android phone to send "new" courses to the 1040
    6. Observe courses slowly get added to the course list on the 1040

    Good luck!

  • On my device courses are synced pretty easily from Strava and RwGPS.  I can see the segments are there too ... they just do not proactively prompt.  At times I can see a choice of segment or climb for which to display but mostly NOT seeing segments pop up.

  • I have had the G1040 for three days only, I'm on 12.16.
Tell me, is Strava LiveSegment limited to 100 segments only?
If so - it sneezes terribly. Wahoo has no limit on SLS. At least I didn't manage to cross it;)

Additional question, on Stravie I use "Sauce" and this plugin allows you to create a "segment for Garmin" which, after generating it, should be copied to the "Garmin / NewFiles" directory. Will then such specific "local segments" be as additional, above this limit for SLS?
Terrible weather conditions and I can't go around too much to test these segments.

    greetings

  • Artur- Gamin's limit of 100 Strava live segments has not changed at all as far as I know.

Also I have never gotten strava live segment to ever appear while riding a route, only free riding.

  •  I have never gotten strava live segment to ever appear while riding a route, only free riding.

  • They will only appear when following a course if the course is built in Strava and synced via the Strava Garmin Connect integration.

  • that is a ton of "ifs"

is this why Wahoo users see them more than Garmin users when riding routes?

  • This something is wrong with me. In Strava (Summit) I have 402 segments marked with an asterisk. On the "Connect" page, in the desktop section and in the "Segment" field, I have 100 of them. However, when viewing the "Garmin / Segments" directory, there are 99 fit files. - I am even more worried about what you wrote that the SLS on the E1040 will be displayed only during the ride created on Strava. In Wahoo I didn't have to follow any route for SLS to work, I could go even without any route, no navigation. But when I approached the GPS coordinates from any segment with an asterisk - the SLS screen would turn on.

  • I’ve seen segments served up which I believe I’ve commented on previously in this thread, but it’s 100% random and 99% of the time I see nothing.  I ride course probably 80% of the time and all of them certainly have segments available and starred.  There two on my way home on most rides and I never see them … Hammerhead Karoo gave them AND the climbing always without issue.  1040 is the most advanced device sold, how is this a real issue?
