Bug: Losing all sensor connections

Today, i became the new Garmin Edge1040,

so I configured it, properly. Connect all my sensors (HRMpro, Quarq Powermeter, Garmin Speedsensor2 ) and started to do a nice hilly ride..

but after  a few meters, he lost all connections. Sometimes during the entirely ride, he find them again, for a few seconds.

Parallel to the edge 1040 I used the new Forerunner to wrote the sensordata. It works without Problems.

Sensor connections to the Forerunner 955 Ant+, to the Edge Bluetooth.

Firmware 12.11 it looks it‘s a early early beta.

Very sad experience, to play the beta tester for such a device…

  • Confirmed.
Looks like it also is a problem when you import profiles where data fields from the IQ store are including, but the app itself is not on the 1040.
I had to remove all my profiles and create a standard one.
Right now I have only Komoot installed, no data fields.
Sensors where found using ANT+ within a second.
    Thanks

  • I don't think that's quite it. When you import the profiles with CIQ fields they are not on the device and those fields just get replaced with a generic one. In my case i imported profiles that had CIQ apps on and used it Thursday night no problems. At that point the 1040  hadn't even been added to CIQ for developers to publish. Yesterday I installed wind field, today none of my sensors would connect

  • I think it might be the latest firmware. The problem came up after the upgrade from 10.xx to 12.11

  • I had the latest firmware on Thursday and it was all fine. Issues started with CIQ data field on profile and go away when I take the CIQ field off the profile

  • Ok, it was only a guess.
I will use it without any data fields for the next time. Hopefully it will be fixed some day.

  • I think that's the only way. Tbh I'm tempted to just send it back and go back to my 830 for a few months.

  • I factory reset my device and did not import anything from Garmin connect.  I then paired my radar with the 1040 and using the default road ride profile, started an activity.   The radar stayed connected for the whole activity, which was10 minutes.

After I was satisfied that it was working, I loaded SPH Graph from the connectIQ store and added it to a data screen on the road ride profile.  Again, I started a ride with only the radar connected.  the radar disconnected after a few minutes.  The only difference was the connectIQ app in the road ride profile.

Whatever is wrong doesn't seem to me to be coming from the activity profiles that are imported.  I think some connectIQ apps, like Komoot, don't affected the sensors because that app doesn't require sensor access but other ConnectIQ apps that access the sensors will cause the issue.  Unsure if that's right but it does seem like certain ConnectIQ apps cause the issues and others don't.

It was an interesting idea though and I wanted to check it out.  That's as close to the factory settings as you can get but it still was broken.

  • I'm going to use my 1030 for a bit more until they resolve this.  I've had an Garmin computer since the Edge 705.  I'm used to launch day disappointments from Garmin.  There's always something it seems but they do sort it out ... eventually ;)

Frankly, I think their UI for rides is terrible out of box.   Without some of the UI's provided by connectIQ, I'd have left a while ago.

  • I did my Saturday ride today with those same exact sensors and they would just drop out within a few minutes...sometimes they'd re-appear. Totally sucked. Had to do a manual strava entry.

  • Tried a couple different connectIQ apps.  Granted, its a small sample size but apps that require permissions to sensors seem to have the problem.  Still unsure if that's the common thread or not.
