gradient lag 1030plus

My new 1030plus is reporting the gradient changes with an annoying delay (more than 4 seconds). When it says i'm ascending i'm already up and when it finally says i'm descending i'm already a few hundred meters on zero gradient.

My 820 did not have this issue... Will this be fixed?!

Kind regards.

R.

  • Can you be more specific about your complaint regarding the climb and elevation screen?
I confirm the lag-issue for gradient display but have not noticed a problem with elevation screen so far.

  • Same problem for me. new unit 1st reel ride with it today.

and ClimbPro was NOT progressing during the climb in the graph .

My 830 is doing a better job then the 1030+.

is Garmin monitoring those comments to make this better !!!!

  • Strange...
I‘m riding almost daily and have not such problems. ClimbPro works flawlessly. So, your problem can‘t be common.
Maybe you lost satellits during the climb?

  • ClimbPro works fine for me. It’s the reported gradient lag that is really bad. No such issues on previous Garmin devices.

  • Seems Garmin knows about the gradient lag issue.  BTW, ClimbPro works fine for me as well.

I received this email from Garmin on 9/18/20 (I granted them permission to access my account):

    Hello,

I have a engineering ticket for a similar issue. I would like to add you to it. Do we  have permission to access your account?

    Thank you for choosing Garmin,

My email to Gamin on 9/17/20 (they previously asked for my activities):

    Jason,

    Thank you for replying.
I use the 1030+ for road cycling only.
    Activities folder is attached.
This gradient lag issue was also a problem with the Edge 820, apparently:  https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/cycling/f/edge-1030/134099/gradient-accuracy-and-lag
Please advise if we 1030+ owners may expect a resolution.  With the glaring exception of this issue I really like the 1030+.
    Regards,
  • Brought my 1030 plus back to the shop where I bought it and they sent it to Garmin. I did a reset as suggested by Garmin support and the problem was still there. On top of that the data screen is now switching screens every 5 seconds even if all other screens are switched off it switches to the same screen. Really annoying... Let's see what they come back with. I also hope that they can solve it because other than this it's quite nice.

  • Did any of you guys tried to change satellite type (GPS, glonass, Galileo) to see if it changes anything ?

    I am in Canada

  • This problem plagued also the straight 1030 for quite a while in the past until they fixed it . This is what it kills me with Garmin: it looks like they don’t have a memory of the past. They probably have a huge developers turn over and there’s no coordination between them.

  • I just received a brand new device and tested it yesterday. It's still slow although it seems a little bit faster (but maybe that's just me wanting so badly that it's faster). Maybe the whole methodology to calculate the gradient is different from the 1000 and that's why??? I will test it again with just GPS and switch off Glonass and see what happens.

  • On saturday I have ride with a friend with edge 830, for him it was the same , delay or lag in displaying of the gradient , for me with 1030 it was almost instant,

830 and 1030 plus I think shares same gps cipset, (i dont know if same barometic )
