Garmin Express- continued prompts to update maps

I selected Europe as the only region I want to install on my device.

However, GE keeps insisting on informing me that I can put additional maps onto the device- is there any way to remove this prompt?

  • I'd just like to confirm that the port I was using used to work just fine and still works with other devices.

  • Exactly as planned: gmapdem1.img and gmapgc1.img have been updated, D4677170A.img has been added. The remaining green corresponds to gmapprom5.img and gmapprom6.img but I don't want to delete those as no update offered.

  • Same for me and earlier today I managed to update the maps on my Fenix 5x Plus with the "wrong" USB port.

  • My laptop only has two USB ports and neither worked but I happened to have dug out a cheap USB Ethernet adapter which also has 3 USB ports and I’m able to manage maps when plugging my 1030+ into that but not directly into the laptop!

  • I had the same problem for many weeks. "Reconnect your device"-message as soon as i tried to update the maps.
Windows 10, several GE Version (latest 7.5). Three different USB-ports. Different USB-cables. Resetting EDGE 1030 Plus and reinstalling GE. No help.
Today i tried something new: My 4th USB-Port on my laptop is used and blocked by an ANT+ stick and was installed all the time when trying to update the maps. I disconnected the ANT+-Stick and used the free USB-port with my EDGE 1030plus for the first time since these problems occur. And then: New device found, charts are updating. I don't know whether the ANT+ Stick caused the problems or the other 3 ports had some wrong information for the edge stored, but port #4 works fine.

  • When you connect a USB device to a Windows PC, a complex relationship of drivers and settings is built and recorded. This remains for the lifetime of the computer (unless you hack it all out). My understanding is that relationship is between a specific USB port and a specific device. In other words, every combination of port & device creates its own relationship. You can see this in the registry but also in software apps like the GhostBuster USB removal tool. I've established that two of my USB ports don't work as expected, but the others work fine. I can only guess that there's something in that initial USB device/USB port binding that's gone screwy on two of my USB ports re the Edge 1030 Plus. Plugging other devices into those USB ports works fine, but they create their own USB device/USB port binding so it's not surprising.

  • This is the one. Had a wireless mouse dongle plugged in to another USB. Removing it solved the issue. Thanks!

  • Thank you. I changed the usb port and was finally able to update. Even now, in the port that did not work, at least the pending update message no longer appears, although in that port it still does not manage the maps.
Thanks to the user community, because the Garmin service (Spain) has only made me waste my time: delete and install garmin express, reset the unit (with a lot of lost time to reconfigure screens etc that I had personalized) and now they wanted me to download basemap and, if it didn't work, they would ask me to send the unit to them.. Incredible, seeing what happens to many people and they could give a concrete answer to the failure raised and not generic answers.
I hope this second USB port does not fail me, because I have no more.

  • Running GE 7.5.0.0 with a new 1030 Plus and I'm getting this update dialog:

Should I do this "update"? I have no need for the European map but assumed that the U.S. one is already installed. On my previous Edge 1000 I would be informed clearly about new versions of the installed map and what the new version number was.

  • I've been having the same problems of updating maps. I changed the usb port and the update is downloading - many thanks for this advice.
