Total ski distance still wrong after update to v15.76/v15.77

Dear Garmin,

I have been skiing this week and the total ski distance is including lifts. This also ruins my statistics in Strava.

In the Garmin app I can see the ski runs, and the distances. However the total skiruns should represent the total distance in the activity.

The same issue is with the total time of the activity.

I have updatet my Garnin MARQ (Gen 2) watch, powered it off and started it again.

This is not a sollution.

Please Garmin fix this as soon as possible as the skiing season is already started.

Regards,

Jorgen

  • It seems that it is not priority to treat ski activity issues during ski season for Garmin... they prefer to ameliorate sleep activity.

  • It is actually not as described in the manual.

[i]When you start going back up on a chair lift, or stop moving downhill for a period of time, the watch will end the run automatically. With advanced ski or snowboard tracking, the watch will continue to record metrics like heart rate between runs, but will not accumulate additional distance or elevation until it senses a new run. so according to this, if it calculates distance on lifts, it is a bug

  • I hope this answer is a joke…

Just a normal answer for a man who is skiing and wants metrics only for downhill…

  • do we get any feedback? Mapping one field cannot be that complicated.
    Thx a lot

    T.

  • Got the latest software update (I use a Fenix 7 sapphire solar). Obviously, the total distance seems to include all lift rides. For what? At the run tab on Garmin Connect the sum of runs showed 25km, which is about right, but on the summary page total distance is 46km. The main problem: the wrong distance is synced to Strava, which is really messing up my statistics. Went skiing with two friends yesterday. Both have a Vivoactive 4s. Their final statistics largely matched and showed the correct distance skied, also on Strava. Why isn't this possible with other watches?

  • Agreed that this makes zero sense. I’ve been skiing with Garmin watches for years. Why would anyone care or add lift distance to a ski total? Assuming the lift  skewed total is causing inaccurate calorie burn as well.

  • Hey , can we get an update on the topic, what is the decision & will It be fixed anytime soon? Someone already mentioned - we are in the middle of the ski/snowboarding season and the app doesn't do what it should due to recent software changes. The workaround you proposed with Auto Run is too manual and you can easily forget to turn on/off your lap, not to mention the need to dig the watch out from clothing layers each time you start or stop your run.

    Please let us know.

  • I would propose everybody who is annoyed by this change contacts their local Garmin support. Every official complaint at Garmin Support will help. The complaints here on the forum might never reach Garmin officials.

  • I am afraid this will not help. Most countries do not even have local support (I for example from Slovakia) and let me give you one example about Garmin idea and gear assignment.
I asked them to have possibility to assign different bikes to different bike activities (you cannot, only general cycling is possible). I started this 2 or 3 years ago. I posted here, answer was this is not the place, use garmin ideas.
So I kept posting to garmin ideas (many times) - no response at all

I also contacted developers at outdoor beta from garmin - no response at all.

Then I contacted official distributor of Garmin in Slovakia and their tech support.
Their answer was that they unfortunately do not have any direct link to Garmin and cannot help.

  • So you are saying on support.garmin.com, you do not have the possibility to call or start a chat with Garmin support? Are you sure? I thought every country has that.

Last chance would be the generic [email protected] email address. I have always received an answer there as well (although it took 2 weeks once). If you write from your email address that is registered at Garmin, your message will be routed to local support (if there is one).
