[BUG] Wrist optical HR will not switch off even if disabled in the settings (running 11.28).

I have a Garmin MARQ Adventurer (Gen 2) running 11.28 and the optical wrist HR will not switch off even if disabled in the settings (or if an external HR is connected - this is how I found the problem). With the OHR off in the settings the watch will stop showing HR on the display but the optical sensor green light will continue to be active.

  • Never did it before, but after having toggled the sensor off the light indeed continues to blink without a reading...

  • Updated May 1st, 2023:

If your OHR sensor green LED lights are either frozen "On" or "Flashing", despite disabling the feature in your watch's Sensors & Accessories > Wrist Heart Rate menu, it is the off wrist detection software that will need to be adjusted. Our engineering team is looking into the behavior further.

  • Why do you keep giving this recommendation, but just do not check that there is a problem in the software?

Or it means a massive problem with the most expensive watch, which I doubt.

  • Why do you keep giving this recommendation, but just do not check that there is a problem in the software?

Good question. I will be happy to explain why.

The MARQ (Gen 2) watches have already sold a significant number. The series uses the same core software as our Fenix 7, Epix 2, D2 Mach 1, and Tactix 7 series watches. There have been no OHR light issue patterns worldwide across any of our watches so therefore, for now, it is highly likely the issue is hardware based given only 1-2 reports worldwide currently.

  • All my friends have the same situation with the HR sensor. Just pass the information to your engineers, please, let them just check it. Thank you.

  • With the issue having been replicated on our end, I am sending all of you a direct Private Message to get you added to the tracking case. It took us awhile to replicate your issue since the same software is in use across our newer generations and they are not exhibiting the same behavior. (Surprising is the Epix 2 does not have the same behavior and it is also using the AMOLED display like your watch.) Thank you to all of you for adding to this thread. We appreciate it.

  • Same case here.

    OHR is unstoppable.

  • I have that same problem. What I'm wondering is; is this a software issue or a hardware related issue? Thank you.
  • I see more than 1-2 problems here.

  • is this a software issue

Yes. We were able to replicate the issue on our end. It is happening across all MARQ (Gen 2) watches. What is unknown is how long the OHR lights are flashing or remain on after the OHR feature is disabled in your Sensors & Accessories > Wrist Heart Rate menu. Our engineering team is working on resolving the issue.
