Any chance of getting an answer on this sometime this year?

Still waiting for an answer,nearly 2 weeks now.

Emailed as well and got bugger all.

If you are having a concern with Autoshot on your fenix 8, confirm the following as outlined below: 

• Ensure you are wearing the watch on your lead wrist (left hand if using right-handed clubs) or (right hand if using left-handed clubs) with the watch positioned on top of the wrist and not on the underside. 
• Also check your watch settings menu on the fenix 8 and confirm User Profile > Wrist > Is set to the correct arm the watch is worn on.

For immediate support you can call/chat the Garmin Support office in your region during office hours as forums is not a dedicated line of immediate support. 

Done all that.Its not rocket science.It worked on 13... Firmware,it doesn't work on 15... Firmware unless I restart the watch once I have started the golf round.

From my end I was advising based on the info initially provided on your post. 

Based on the software you mentioned having installed in your reply...you are enrolled in the beta program and test software is installed to your watch if you are on version 15.

The beta program is a process of test software releases. The timeline of a release resulting in a fix for the concern or response may take some time. You have an outlet where you can revert your software and unenroll from beta or await a response once a member of that team has been able to review your post. 

The public section of forums is not dedicated for reports of issues occurring with beta software.
