So now we have to pay every month for new features with Garmin Connect+?

After already paying an insane price for a Fenix 8, we now have to subscribe to Garmin Connect+ just to get new features? And all of this while the watch is still running on a three-year-old processor that barely manages to load maps?

What exactly is new in Connect+ that justifies this extra cost? Does it actually improve performance, or is this just a way to charge users more for things that should be included in a premium watch?

Would love to hear what others think about this change.

  • I wish they could reverse the exclusive badges. Worse decision ever and it's segmenting users even more on a platform that's already not so active Disappointed

  • If their platform was solid, modern and fully featured then sure, stick GC+ on top for the last 5% of things that most people don't want or need. Those that are very serious about their training won't mind paying a small amount each month for valuable feedback to increase their performance further.

Doing it for what is going to be standard stuff soon (AI coaching etc) seems like a money grab, especially as their platform still doesn't do basic stuff for most of the recorded activities and their release firmware is more like an early beta.

It's put Garmin down in my estimations and I won't be jumping to upgrade in future. I'll likely do more research on alternatives next time rather than just be a fan boy and get their latest.

Surely if we want an AI analysis we can export our data and chuck it at ChatGPT to analyse every now and then?

  • I just signed up for the 30 day free trial (I have 0% interest in paying for Connect+) but as it's free I wanted to see what it's about.

Turns out that you can't cancel on the same day as you sign up which I think is very underhanded and sneaky, possibly a tactic to make it more likely you'll forget and accidently allow it to auto-renew at the end of the 30 days.

Their practice is also questionable under UK law as it lacks transparency, I don't remember seeing anywhere them mentioning that I can't cancel on the same day I sign up before signing up.

    1. Transparency: If this "no cancellation on day 1" rule isn't mentioned anywhere in the Terms and Conditions you agreed to, it lacks transparency, which is a requirement under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. 1
    2. Unfair Practices: Blocking cancellation, even temporarily, seems like an unnecessary barrier. Consumer protection principles (enforced by bodies like the Competition and Markets Authority - CMA) aim to prevent "subscription traps" where cancelling is made difficult. Forcing you to wait even a day increases the chance you might forget, which could be seen as an unfair commercial practice.
    3. Purpose of Trial: A free trial is meant for evaluation, and you should be able to easily signal you don't want to proceed to the paid tier at any point during that trial.

I've had to contact them via email and put a formal request for them to cancel it as I don't want this hanging around in the background.

  • From the Garmin Website

Due to high demand, you may notice a delay in managing your Garmin Connect+ in your Subscription Management Center.  Your active Garmin Connect+ is still processing and this is why you do not see the subscription or the ability to currently cancel.

Subscription account processing time is typically completed within 72 hours from activation.  Once your receive the Garmin Connect+ subscription activation email, you can check back in the Subscription Management Center to cancel your free trial.  See Managing My Garmin Subscription Service for more information on managing your subscription.

  • Hopefully just the 30 day trial people...

  • Only Garmin knows.

Bottom line Garmin has addressed your issue, and you should be able to cancel in 72 hours. If not, call Garmin Support,

  • yep, fair enough. Still salty tho. :D

  • Connect+ for me - ain't gonna happen.

Garmin premium watches - to expensive as it is.

If forced, will look to Suunto/Polar.

  • I can't see any difference to the normal Connect, not sure what I'm missing. The website even says it's Connect and not Connect+ so perhaps there's an issue with their servers or something.
