Just some information, hopefully for Garmin to see and investigate on some level.
I have gone through various Garmins over the years from a 310XT onwards but for the more modern watches where they use the app etc, I've had a Fenix 6 Pro, then an Epix gen 2 and now a Fenix 8.
Having gone from one to the next and at some point Garmin added the backup and restore functionality. As I've upgraded I think it's generally pulled some settings etc across to the next watch, more so probably from the Epix Gen 2 to the Fenix 8. In doing this I think it's caused me some issues.
Firstly I could not pan on the map screen during activities and would have to use the buttons, no matter the touch screen settings. Same for the weights app, I could not enter the weight or reps using the touch screen no matter the touch screen settings.
I eventually factory reset the watch and restored an earlier Fenix 8 backup in case I'd done something or it had got itself confused, this also didn't work so I reset again and tried the Epix Gen 2 backup. This worked for the touchscreen but tonight when bouldering I was unable to use the bottom right button to tell the watch I'd finished a climb, it would vibrate but nothing would happen. I could tap it 100 times and I couldn't mark the current route as being complete etc.
I tried the indoor climbing and that had the same problem so both were unusable.
I then did another factory reset but did not restore any of my backups and now everything seems to be working correctly, it also feels about twice more responsive.
I think there may be some serious underlying bug in the backup and restore feature, I have been part of the BETA previously. Mainly with my Fenix 6 Pro and Epix Gen 2 so perhaps one of the Beta versions scrambled something.
Either way, I thought it's worth reporting and letting others know in case someone else experiences some odd behaviour or if Garmin want to check my backups to check if there's anything weird going on.
