[BUG] 13.35 Sleep Watch Face remains active after manually deactivating Sleep Mode

I have posted this issue 4 months ago in the beta forum regarding the 12.xx cycle. We have 13.35 now as Live software but the issue is still not fixed.

Manually deactivating sleep mode does not revert the watch face to the default one. I believe this issue also occurs when sleep mode is deactivated by opening the Morning Report before the configured wake-up time.

Edit: Thanks, @BBK.Paul, for posting a video in the comments. It seems that the issue does not occur when, after disabling sleep mode, you turn off the screen by covering it with your palm and then reactivate it by tapping. To reproduce the issue, you need to return to the watch face using either the back button (the bottom-right one) or the swipe-back gesture on the screen.

Edit2: Above comment seems not to be precise enough. As @BBK.Paul showed in the comment in the video there is no issue on his watch. For now I do not know which settings cause the issue.

  • Are you on iPhone?  I have the Android and I don't have the settings at the top left of the sleep score at glances.

  • Android, but the phone system does not matter here. It is available only on the watch. Just saw that I made a mistake - I meant top-RIGHT menu not left.

  • Interesting, I have no issues with the touch so probably there are more settings of Battery Saver / Sleep mode used together that does not work properly.

  • As updated elsewhere: touchscreen issues as well..

So..morning update (CET/Europe time ..) I left my Fenix 8 with the touchscreen unresponsive after manually disabling the sleep mode (it had activated while I was still using the watch at 11 PM). This morning, as scheduled, it disable the sleep mode by itself per program at 7:30, and surprisingly, the touchscreen was functioning again! It seems there's a code issue (bug) causing interference with the touchscreen when sleep mode is manually enabled or disabled. To restore the feature immediately (if don't want to wait or change the program/hours), I have to reboot the watch. That's all for now!

  • Got it.  I just tried using the sleep On/Off and power saving.  My touch function is still working normally.  The watch stays in night mode if I used Control wheel to turn off sleep mode.  I have to do it a couple times to get it back to normal watch face.  If I use at glances/sleep score to turn sleep mode, it's back to normal.  My touch function is working normally.

  • @Garmin-Laurie to summarize the discussion, here is a description of the issue:

    Issue Summary:
When Battery Saver is enabled for Sleep Mode, the watch face does not revert to the default one after manually enabling and disabling sleep mode.

Additionally, user Giannix reported that the touchscreen becomes unresponsive until a reboot. However, I have not experienced this issue myself, suggesting that other conflicting settings may be involved.

This bug has existed since at least version 12.14, which I previously reported here:
Public Beta 12.xx - Sleep watch face remains active after manually deactivating sleep mode.

    Steps to Reproduce:

    1. Enable Battery Saver for Sleep Mode (this setting is only available on the watch):
      • Navigate to:
        Glances > Sleep Score > Top-right menu > Settings > Battery Saver
      • Set it to On.
    2. Ensure Battery Saver modifies the Watch Face during Sleep Mode:
      • Go to:
Watch Settings > Power Manager > Battery Saver > Edit > Watch Face
      • Set it to Low Power.
    3. Manually enable and disable Sleep Mode using the Control Wheel.
    4. Important note:
      • The issue does not occur if, after disabling Sleep Mode, you turn off the screen by covering it with your palm and then reactivate it by tapping.
      • To reproduce the issue, return to the watch face using either the back button (bottom-right one) or the swipe-back gesture on the screen.
    5. Observe the behavior:
      • The Sleep Mode watch face remains active instead of switching back to the default one.
      • Some users report touchscreen unresponsiveness, but this issue does not occur for me, indicating additional settings may be causing conflicts.

    Expected Behavior:

    • After disabling Sleep Mode, the watch should immediately revert to the default watch face.
    • The touchscreen should remain functional without requiring a reboot.

    Observed Behavior:

    • The Sleep Mode watch face remains even after disabling Sleep Mode.
    • Some users report touchscreen issues, while others do not, suggesting a possible conflict with other settings.

As always, I agree to be contacted here, via private message, or by email if further information is needed.

  • I agree and experiencing the very same.

  • Hello. I am sorry to hear you are having this issue. I would love to help investigate this further. For this, I will reach out to each of you via Private Message to collect details of this experience.

  • Does it work that well for you when sleep mode is triggered by sleep schedule and not manually, too?
