Block unauthorized advertising

  • There has to be problem with your phone and some apps in it. You can have some "silent" notifications on your phone, that means you don't see them, but they are there in notification centre, so Garmin can see it. Garmin does not show any advertisements just like that.

  • Are you sure? I can't find these notifications on the smartphone connected to the watch.

  • Are you sure?

Yes, that's right. Disable notifications form all apps, and then add the apps one at a time (or do it in the reverse sense, disabling one app after the other), to see which one sends you the spam.

Alternatively, on many Garmin watches (I do not have the Fenix 8, though), you can enter the options of the notification on the watch by pressing the Start button, and then select the option Block App, and all notifications from the concerned app will be disabled.

  • The start button doesn't work on the Fenix 8 because the voice messages are called up by default if you press the button for a longer time. And the Garmin watch doesn't give me any indication of which app these messages come from and that's annoying.

At some point I'm fed up with such difficulties, I don't want to keep having to look for the proverbial needle in a haystack when the information must be somewhere in the system but you can't access it

Do not press it for longer time, just shortly. Go to the Notifications widget, the notifications are prefixed by an icon which indicates the app sending the notification (at least at the most common apps). When you hit the Start button shortly, the details of the notification are shown. When you press the button again, you get the options, where you can block the app that has sent the notification. At least so it is on other Garmin watches, I cannot verify F8 behaves identically.

It is up to you whether you try to disable the app sending you the spam. If you do not want to listen the advices, then I do not understand why are you asking for help.

  • F8 behaves the same way as the other Garmin watches. You can block app's notifications just by opening them, pressing Start button and selecting Block app. Then it's blocked for good.

  • Sorry, but when I press the start button (top right) after receiving a message, it just says "Empty". The only thing I can do with that is delete the message, otherwise there is no further information or options.

  • Yes, but unfortunately I have no success no matter where I look or what I do. I can only block the messages completely, but then I no longer get emails on my watch or messages when someone writes to me via WhatsApp.

I had already blocked SMS today, and just a little later another message came from another corner. Are these messages coming from WiFi, Bluetooth or somewhere else?

I can't find any of these messages, neither on my smartphone (iPhone) nor on the Mac...they only appear on the Fenix.

  • Look at Garmin Connect app - Settings - Notifications - App notifications, and tick off everything except the crucial things you would like to receive to your watch like messages, Whatsapp, Phone calls, etc.

  • Notifications come from the phone over Bluetooth. Please make a photo of the notifications you get, perhaps we can help you better then.

Also, follow the given instructions exactly as I wrote, in order to block the originating phone app sending you the spam: press the Start button twice when on the notification (first button press shows the content, the second one shows the options), and the you can block the originating app. If you did not discard the notification, you can go to the Notifications widget, and do it from there.
