Fenix 8 Estimated finish time

Hi all.  I have added estimated finish time (this seems to be the only relevant option. on the watch) to a data field.

Presumably once it knows distance to end from a gps or on the hoof routing, the watch uses average pace to estimate this?

every time I have gone out and tried this, the display is blank here ie no number are shown under EST FINISH TIME

am I doing something wrong or is this yet another Fenix 8 bug?

  • Not sure - might be a bug specific to navigate back to start.  Does it work when following a course?

  • Hi Marc.  I'll have to try that out again.  Having an empty data field is irritating....something is up as the watch knows my pace, where I am and where it's going so has all this info.  thanks very much for inputting

  • Okay I think I figured this out. This morning while running I was able to replicate the issue.  So there are two ways to navigate back to start.  One is to push the left middle button (menu button) and go through the option tree to find "Back to Start".  Alternatively, one can stop the activity and then scroll down through the choices to select "back to start".  In the first case, the user cannot choose between the "route" option versus the TracBack option.  In the second case, the user does have this choice.  Anyway, bug #1 is that the user should have this option in both cases.   Bug #2 is that only if the user stops their activity, chooses Back to Start and then chooses the TracBack option will Estimated Finish Time be displayed.  Otherwise it will be blank as you have seen.

Interesting, ETA is populated so you could use that instead or just choose the TracBack option.  Btw, there is yet another bug that another user discovered with ETA where during a climb it will show the ETA of reaching the top of the climb and then after that will show the overall ETA.  This is very confusing of course.

Does that make sense or help?

  • Hi Mark.  You absolute star, thank you.  If only Garmin "technical support" were even a fraction as helpful.  Navigating these bugs on a £1000 watch is a royal pain.  I dont have the watch with me right now but is "ETA" a time data field thats distinct from "estimated finish time"?  I dont actually remember that being present as an option.

  • ETA is under Navigation Fields and is distinct from estimated finish time.  However as I mentioned, the ETA field has issues of it's own as well.
