Fenix 8 Solar saffire battery issues

After much deliberation, I finally decided to purchase the Fenix 8 47mm Solar Sapphire, mainly because of Garmin’s advertised battery life of up to 28 days. Unfortunately, the claimed 28-day battery life is a myth. In smartwatch mode with Wi-Fi off, my Fenix 8 is completely drained after just 3 days. It loses 15% battery overnight alone.

After contacting Garmin's product support team, my Fenix 8 was replaced with a new unit. Sadly, this new device has the exact same issue! The battery is drained again after just three days.

What’s going on here, Garmin?

  • Have found out that a simple  reset of the new watch after completion of settings, wifi and bluetooth connection solved the battery drain issue!

  • well, I have installed the latest firmware but the draining persists. Can you please confirm if your problem has been resolved if you have performed any activity like running etc and how the watch battery performs after this activity?

  • Have fully charged my fenix 8 after the reset 7 day ago, battery still good for another 11 days. have done 4x activity (Running and walk). Still not the 20/28 days battery life time as advertised. Perhaps next charging better since now a bit used to the watch and no more adding of apps and settings. Using firmware 11.90.

  • Garmin officially declares "Up to 21 days (28 days with solar)".

Are you sure you're giving enough sun for 28 days life?

But, I agree -  if the F8 live at least the stated 21 days, it will be phenomenal for today's Garmin quality....

  • 47mm solar, for me so far so good. 11.9 and 12.22 are giving me less than 5% consumption per day. and I get about 2 weeks of normal use out of a charge *considering its winter and I am inside all day during sunlight hours. So running on battery only. I do about 6hours of GPS acitivites a week.

  • how exactly did you backdating to 11.89?

  • Our engineers are still investigating battery drain concerns associated with the Fenix 8. They would like to point out many things that are expected to increase battery drain beyond the estimated days remaining. This could include any of the following:

    • GPS (in particular All satellites, or Multiband settings will use more battery life)
    • Voice Features
    • Phone assistant
    • Backlight (It is recommended to reduce the brightness. Gestures will turn this on more frequently)
    • Notifications
    • Alerts
    • Vibrations
    • Animations (as with yoga or breathing activities for example)
    • Connect IQ apps or watch faces (many of these have been found to drain the battery more quickly)
    • Pulse OX either All day or During Sleep
    • Paired sensors
    • Music
    • Paired Bluetooth headset
    • Watch faces with second hands

So when you are measuring your battery drain, be sure to take these items into account. If you are seeing a rapid drain, please feel free to reach out to me via Private message so I can collect some details.
