Fenix 8 51mm SOLAR Battery Drain

I’ve had to raise a support ticket in the end. My Fenix 8 51mm Solar is performing significantly worse than my old Fenix 7 47mm Solar.

100% charge on Friday

6 Hours of GPS activity over the weekend in sunny weather and 150-200k LUX each day. Finished Sunday night at 65%. Woke up this morning to 50% (15% drain over night!).

It’s typically draining 8-10% a day when there is no activity as well.

Steps I’ve tried (not that any are acceptable, as they differ from my 7).

1. Latest BETA software

2. WiFi Off

3. PulseOX off.

4. Backlight is at lowest setting.

5. Gesture Backlight off.

  • Pulseox is on at night only.

    I believe the stated run times assume no Pulseox.

  • Did anyone get a resolution yet?

  • By now, no, but reboot watch after gps activity, then it will get normal. This  could be workaround..

  • So. 11.89. I found a scheme that works on my f8-47mm and gives me the advertised ~5%/day battery usage.
    I tried several watch faces from ManuelB. They all have an option called AOD. If you set it to "Once a minute" and enable other option called "Battery saver during day" (off by default), you'll get you screen updated strictly once a minute. It means if you have a heart rate info displayed on your watch face, it wont update instantly on your gesture, only once a minute. It's sad, but I got used to it. Even with notifications, I don't care that I'll see the icon within a minute. But it gave me the 5%/day battery consumption.

    But still, this might be a hardware issue, when the screen controller takes a looot of power to redraw the screen. It explains why stock watch faces also consume more battery. I hope I'm wrong, but now I use a watch face from ManuelB with lots of data and advertised battery, trading off fast screen updates

  • seems a new software 11.90 is ready , hopefully it will resolve the issue, but for the price this is unacceptable.....lets wait for that, i found it today in the watch ready to launch...

  • Wishful thinking detected Slight smile

    Change Log

    Fixed possible crash on boot.

  • you are absolutely right.....hope...

  • I made the chart in about 15 minutes. Data is from Garmin's website for each watch's specification for days of battery life in smart watch mode, then I used a formula to calculate the inverse (percent/days). I was surprised that the forum engine could accept a paste from a spreadsheet, but that's all.

  • Hello everyone. Battery report for the F8 47mm Solar after the 2nd charge (from 100% to turning off the watch). I took it off late in the evening on 10/26/2024, on 11/01/2024 (around 4:30 PM) it turned off during a workout (when connecting it offered to save and everything was ok, the workout was not lost):
    - there were 15 workouts (running with a bib + walking), a total of 5 hours 34 minutes, all with GPS (max accuracy + multi-range);
    - no economy modes during sleep, etc.;
    - the digitizer is not standard (FalconX, I really liked it, I played with others, it was not the same);
    - one workout was with a flashlight at maximum (about 50 minutes);
    - I added a pulse oximeter (only at night, I hadn't turned it on before). True, there was no data today, maybe because of the low charge, all other days are ok;
    - there was an update to v11.90 (everything seems to be smooth, without any problems);
    - I played with maps during walking classes;
    - I studied the watch, different widget options and the like, in short, I'm still playing (a lot of button presses);
    - the sensor is on;
    - auto-lock during classes is on;
    - vibration is on, minimum backlight (timeout 8 seconds);
    - notifications from phones are on;
    - morning report.
    Total about 6 days. At the moment, I don't know who to believe in the battery forecast))). A third-party dial gives one value, the system gives the longest battery life, and the downloaded widget the shortest battery life. By the way, the downloaded widget can drop up to 2 days of battery life after training)).
    Experienced Garmin users and those who have F8 Solar 47mm - is this a normal battery life or not? I just sometimes read and don't understand how people write about 10-20 days, and here it's 6 days ))). Or they turn everything off. I think I mentioned everything, if you have any questions, write. And if there are owners of 47mm, how are you doing with the battery?

  • Same thing here on 47 solar. Just bought the watch, first 2 days - all is good, couple percent per day consumption and estimate of charge in days decreasing 1 day per day.
    Today it plummet, estimate went from 15 days in the morning to just 8 at the evening, and in terms of percent it went from 78 to 40 in one day. I haven't even set everything up fully, I have only a single third party app installed, YT music, that's it, the rest is pretty much defaults I haven't even set everything up yet. Reboot, turning off communications and unpairing headphones didn't help. Not a nice experience for the out of the box product
