Unstable bluetooth/ music playback

I listen to music on my watch through Spotify while running. The playback performs great when it's just headphones connected however when the watch is also connected to a HRM, the music playback is janky and cuts in and out constantly. I can only assume this is an issue with Bluetooth when both external devices are connected.

Note - I've been running with this setup on my previous Fenix 7 with no issue.

Please fix.

  • I have the same issue !! The music or Spotify keeps cutting out when I’m using my Apple wireless headphones. Every minute or two, I have to stop and restart the music on the watch, which is not only annoying but really interrupts the experience. Sometimes, the music even freezes and then randomly speeds up, playing at almost double the pace. I’ve already done a full factory reset, and it’s still acting up. Please advise what is the fix? Ive merely had the watch for a week, and did not expect to face these kinds of issues with such a high-end device.

  • As I mention before this happens to me only when using GPS. No issues on treadmill.

Things improved after a un-pair the headphones, reset the headphones and pair again with the watch. I have also changes the GPS settings to Auto-select (instead of Multiband as I did before).

As I wrote, it is improving, but whenever I wam running next to high  buildings or under thick trees, music starts to jump bit.

It is clearly for me a CPU issue. Watch cannot copes with both GPS and streaming.

  • This isn’t new it’s been an issue on every Fenix with music and you can find the threads in the forum. Garmin don’t acknowledge it and won’t fix it, and for some reason reviewers never acknowledge it either.

  • I have a similar problem. Running with chest strap and earphone-sony wf-c500, they are connected to the f8-solar, but when i want to change the playlist it is impossible. Presing the library buton and nothing. Even when i want to acces to music library when i finish workout, i cannot. Have to restart the watch and theh i have acces to library... Till next running

  • The same on Enduro 3. I tested with disconnected HRM and problem persists. I did the trick which fix the problem for a while - paused music for a minute then resume and it plays smoothly for a while but then lags again. I believe it is connected to lost Satellites finding. When it does finding it interrupts music. I used to use Fenix 6 Pro solar and never seen such an issue. It seems new software is not good enough yet. Need a fix.

  • Same for me.  Absolutely leaving Garmin if they can't get this basic stuff right.

  • Same problems! With and without HRM connected. Fenix 8 - 13.45

  • Running in a the city with skyscrapers and trees. IMHO the skip happens when the GPS struggle to get good signal -> it is a CPU issue

It's probably not so much  a CPU issue but rather a 2.4ghz congestion issue (the frequency range bluetooth uses) when you're around thousands of other people attempting to use the same freqs with more powerful devices.

The side of your head the bluetooth receiver is on also can plays a role as the signal is blocked by your body if the transmitter (the watch) and the receiver (your right earpiece) are on different sides of the a big bunch of meat.

As I mention before this happens to me only when using GPS. No issues on treadmill.

Yeah, you're likely indoors when you're on the treadmill and shielded from the countless other bluetooth signals outside. I've had the same issue and it almost always only occurs when I'm around thousands of other people in the city, never in the suburbs or the country.

  • Hmmmm...no really sure....with the AWU and same headphones (before switching to the Fenix 8) I had not issue....
