Why isn't the Fenix 7 receiving new features?

To whom it may concern, at Garmin, I'm NOT HAPPY that the Fenix 7 series has gone into maintenance mode so quickly. I've been a Garmin user for decades, starting with FR305, followed by every FR iteration since, along with a Fenix 3, multiple 6S Pros, several Edges, etc.  I even have 2 Index S2s, countless HRMs

I paid too much for my Fenix 7 Solar for it to become a dead-end device this quickly. Besides bug fixes, it has half-baked features (think swim, HRM auto-connect, etc.) that must be finished appropriately.

I have the FR955 Solar, which will keep me going since it is still getting new features. But it was released just a few months after the Fenix 7 in 2022, so I figure it will be dead-ended soon as well.

Thus, I'm dead-ending my support of Garmin devices.

  • I have worked 30 years in software development, sometimes that is just how it goes.Joy I am not experiencing any bugs on the beta release at this time.

  • You did not get that reboot when you deleted the last notification?

  • Yeah... That’s not enough to me. When I bought my watch, I expected it to receive regular updates for a reasonable period. I wasn’t asking for decades of support, just the standard 2-3 years. But they stopped adding new features only 17 months after its release. On top of that, they’re now pushing us to buy a rebranded Epix Gen 2  (the successful Fenix E) to access these updates. That’s what frustrates me the most—it’s so blatantly obvious. And honestly, I just don’t understand it, not even from an economic standpoint.

  • this is why i campaign for Garmin to push the "new system" to every compatible watch.

    Maybe the solution should be

    - 20.xx with only bugfix for those that do not want to change

    - New System (very different UI and features implementation) for the others

  • 20.xx with only bugfix

That's what I'd opt for anytime.

Running on an officially supported uptodate version w/ all core functions working and no new bugs for existing (and working!) functions will be the only way to keep me from leaving Garmin after 5 devices.

    Lost confidence though.

  • Wait until they start releasing new models every year or half a year. Fenix 9, fenix 9 pro… It surely looks to me that shareholders took over the company since they started the crap with amoled… all they are doing now is trying to pull in all apple watch users to maximize profits. So welcome in Garmin lifestyle smart watches era…with unfinished software of course because there are tigh time frames for polishing new products since they want the profits asap. Loved the Garmin so much it hurts to see the ‘big boys’ destroying another great company.

  • In the Forerunner 965 and 955 they have implemented climb pro, meditation activity, a new map layer system, a moon phase widget, etc. In the fenix and epix, nothing important. It seems that they are totally neglected by the Garmin developers, I thought they were the premium range. I am considering changing to another brand for the next watch.

  • A couple of new features did make it last year to Fenix 7 too. And looking at the beta forums seams now they are focusing on bug fixing. Not a bad idea.
My Fenix 7 pro SS seams a capable and feature rich watch. As others I bought it for the features it had in that moment.

As an ex (nearly pro) athletes I du use it extensively and it's ok.

Comparing it with the Fenix 8 the diving feature would be nice to have, but that's clearly not a software feature.

Cam on, let's not complain just for complaining. We can be happy with our Fenix

  • 4 IQ data fields and replying messages by touch keyboard would be nice, not a hardware issue

  • I dont understand how older watches get new features and the 7 pro has not gotten them... Wont be buying another Garmin product if this is how they continue treating their customers.
