What features does the Fenix 9 need to have to make you upgrade?

Since the release of the Fenix 8 is imminent close and the related feature discussion is closed, let's start over:

Hey everyone, with the Fenix 9 takes a glimpse far, far away on the horizon, I'm curious—what would make you excited enough to upgrade? Whether it's better sensors, longer battery life, or some totally new feature we haven't seen before, what would make the next Fenix irresistible for you? Let's get a discussion going and share our wishlists for what we hope to see in the next generation!

Please also take the point in time with a good sense of humor, we're in a user forum to share thoughts and also have fun, right?

  • Yeah, maybe i am a hater for wanting something reliable.

I want it so bad, that i ditched my Fenix 7 after being f**** by the ongoing worse updates - not just battery wise, also metrics were skewed that hard for over 8 weeks that all their interpretation was crap from there on - that i switched brands

  • Full LTE is not just about our own emergencies. Most people have families and need to be able to be reached. If my kid is sick at school and we don’t answer within I think 15 mins they treat it like the parents have died. I need to be able to be reached for what may not be an “emergency” to some but for me it is. Its not that damn hard. Both my kids have the bounce watch which has its own sorts and its not like this is new technology and there are not loads of competitors examples.

  • then go and answer in 15 minutes! no need to spoil our great watch just because of your kids

  • call your kids, tell them you are alive

what's the matter? do it right now, go ahead! they r waitin!

  • You guys are insane lol the discussion is LTE if Im on an hour plus run and they call I WOULD HAVE NO IDEA. thats the topic. The schools starts calling all the emergency contacts cause they cant relax and wait. Tell me you have no kids or responsibilities without telling me you have no kids or responsibilities.

  • I do have kids, and they are doing fine. But also do I live in a country where they are not bringing guns to the schools...

In my opinion this watch line is about outdoor, adventure, sports - not about doing calls on your doggy walk in the next park. Yeah, doing calls is "state of art" for some technological areas, right. But i think core of this line - as i would like it to remain - is being rugged - and not technically on the latest edge.

So product designers need to balance between features and size / energy consumption. To be able to do phone calls, you need speakers, mics, LTE and stuff - all of that adds weight, size, points of weakness to an otherwise closed case, complexity to a firmware and also in the end to energy consumption. I do think mic an speakers on a Fenix 8 to be a step in the wrong direction.

Also latest happenings in updates are steps in the wrong direction (my 7 did suffer huge from worst battery consumption, also sensor connection was at best wonky in the last versions and to top it -> restarts when using basic stuff like maps and navigation, or just because of whoever knows). And i don't think Garmin will handle added complexity just fine anymore...

  • if Im on an hour plus run and they call I WOULD HAVE NO IDEA. thats the topic

Have you considered carrying a phone on your runs or that is unthinkable to you? I do it on pretty much every run and that isn't a big deal if you have the right gear. It is an emergency gear, but also I use it to listen to music and take pictures, and occasionally for navigation, when I need a larger and more detailed map that I can get on my watch.
