What features does the Fenix 9 need to have to make you upgrade?

Since the release of the Fenix 8 is imminent close and the related feature discussion is closed, let's start over:

Hey everyone, with the Fenix 9 takes a glimpse far, far away on the horizon, I'm curious—what would make you excited enough to upgrade? Whether it's better sensors, longer battery life, or some totally new feature we haven't seen before, what would make the next Fenix irresistible for you? Let's get a discussion going and share our wishlists for what we hope to see in the next generation!

Please also take the point in time with a good sense of humor, we're in a user forum to share thoughts and also have fun, right?

  • What I want compared to the fenix 8 is a cheaper watch, but several versions: a watch that's aimed only at runners, one that's only aimed at cyclist,....  A battery that lasts a 200 miler at the best accuracy.  I also would like to see better course directions, not that the course directions on my fenix 7 are wrong, but sometimes I get no direction eventhough I have to turn left or right and I have the possibility to go straight and also I sometimes get the direction to turn left or right when it's simply a curve.

  • Wireless charging and option to switch to amoled on the solar version. Find a way around replying to text messages for iPhone users.

The whole point of the Fenix is that it's supposed to be the flagship watch that does everything. They already have cheaper watches that are meant primarily only for users interested in a single sport. Forerunner for runners, Swim for swimmers, Approach for golfers, etc etc. There isn't a cycling specific one because cyclists don't usually want to look at their wrist, they have bike computers for that. And then for people who don't want to just have a watch focusing on a single activity, and want all the available features for all activities, there's Fenix.

People are already complaining that there are too many Garmin models to pick from as it is, I don't think it's a good idea to break up Fenix into different models each meant primarily only for a specific sports. Besides, I don't think if they just deleted software functions it would cost that much less than it does now, most of the cost is the hardware.

I suspect that reducing features in this software will break even more, than make it sleeker and cheaper. For the price tag, I suspect around 40-50% (and this is for "High quality" sourcing) of the retail price is for product development, hardware sourcing, assembly, software development and distribution. The remainder is margin, investing, manager bonuses etc ;)

Thanks! It looks like it could be made into a wristband, or indeed maybe even (much) smaller.

  • In the past I had Fenix 3 and I had seen the same battery life declared in the manual only a single time. That was afte I bought Fenix 5X. :) It was sitting in the drawer and after 27 days I had charged it to give it to its new owner. :D

  • Exactly!

Come on Garmin, this shouldn't be that hard. Or just open the GNSS API and we'll do it. Even my cheepo car dashcam can display this page.
