What features does the Fenix 9 need to have to make you upgrade?

Since the release of the Fenix 8 is imminent close and the related feature discussion is closed, let's start over:

Hey everyone, with the Fenix 9 takes a glimpse far, far away on the horizon, I'm curious—what would make you excited enough to upgrade? Whether it's better sensors, longer battery life, or some totally new feature we haven't seen before, what would make the next Fenix irresistible for you? Let's get a discussion going and share our wishlists for what we hope to see in the next generation!

Please also take the point in time with a good sense of humor, we're in a user forum to share thoughts and also have fun, right?

  • That's actually a really good idea, I might do that too. How does it work with having the same phone # as your primary smartphone? Do you move a sim card from one to the other, or does e-sim allow you to have both working at the same time? Sorry, I'm not that familiar with this sort of thing

  • This needs to be considered on a casy-by-case basis, as this phone's weight is 110g - any modern compact smartphone is not that much heavier, my S23 weighs 168g, i am not gaining that much by getting this phone as the S23 is already pretty compact and not that heavy. I still think eSIM is something that's 100% necessary for Fenix 9 as this can finally make my phone obsolete for runnning.

  • My phone (pixel 9 Pro XL) weighs 221g so it would be exactly half the weight. Although, honestly it doesn't bother me that much carrying it on a run. But for only $130 it might be nice to have something 50% lighter.

  • This is exactly what I keep telling people - .

I'm having a day to day Pixel 9 Pro. For running I am taking my old Pixel 4 with me. Doesn't bother me if it breaks, scratches or gets wet... My phone contract allows me up to 3 eSims, no need to swap back and forth

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't you need to buy an expensive Garmin LTE contract for using the Forerunner LTE?

PS: I would never take a large screen phone with me on a run. I'm also tempted to find myself a Nokia 3310 and charge it twice a year if the pixel breaks Smiley

  • Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't you need to buy an expensive Garmin LTE contract for using the Forerunner LTE?

You did need to buy a Garmin LTE plan, but it was not very expensive ($5 a month for annual contract, or $6 a month without contract)

  • My phone contract allows me up to 3 eSims, no need to swap back and forth

Sounds like I need to switch to using e-sim. I've just been using a regular sim card.

  • Depends on your carrier, more specifically I could also use regular sims. But those needed to be post delivered. All my current devices support eSim, so it's been a matter of minutes to get another one.

  • Woohoo, weight discussions... Okay, let me get that straight, since it's fun... I know cyclists, that spend 350 bucks on a bike computer holder that spares them 18 grams... but they are ordering the biggest macchiato at the cafe...

Reducing 200g of weight is as simple as sparing out 1400 kcal ;)

  • Yeah, but that's about 30% costs of my unlimited contract, so for basic messaging and tracking it is really expensive in comparison. Even more than that, since I could use my contract if the watch would support eSim

  • We don't want just messaging. The LTE watch needs to be able to make calls. We are in the year 2024.
