What features does the Fenix 9 need to have to make you upgrade?

Since the release of the Fenix 8 is imminent close and the related feature discussion is closed, let's start over:

Hey everyone, with the Fenix 9 takes a glimpse far, far away on the horizon, I'm curious—what would make you excited enough to upgrade? Whether it's better sensors, longer battery life, or some totally new feature we haven't seen before, what would make the next Fenix irresistible for you? Let's get a discussion going and share our wishlists for what we hope to see in the next generation!

Please also take the point in time with a good sense of humor, we're in a user forum to share thoughts and also have fun, right?

  • It's quite simple. A MIP watch with all the best that Garmin offers + an LTE (voice/messaging) that turns on/off manually or automatically based on whether your phone is nearby.

It would also be smart to add the feature of continuous ECG scanning of your heart rate like it is done in Apple where they have a logic behind that is very good with predicting issues with the heart. This could already be added to all the Garmin watches with v5 sensor with just a SW update. The manual approach that we have now should still be available to those who want to make an actual ECG.

  • I'm not familiar with Apple's continuous ECG scanning, how does that work, considering an ECG reading requires a "closed loop" (the reason we have to touch the bezel during the test)?

  • continuous ECG scanning of your heart rate like it is done in Apple

"ECG" is a misnomer. It's not an electrocardiogram, but rather the optical sensor looking for events of afib type fluttering in the blood flow.

  • Agreed, we don't have this in Garmin, all we can do is set low HR and high HR to be notified if something is wrong.

  • None, I will never buy again a Garmin. I got an Epix Pro gen 2 with broken software that never worked as it should. I will go for Apple next time and I can't recommend Garmin anymore due to their customers policies. No way.

    Womp womp... Pensive

  • Cowardly not starting a new thread titled "Is anyone glad that they didn't upgrade to a Fenix 8?" but I sure am! I am enjoying the  always-on MIP display, the white background watchface, the well adjustable backlight, the mapping and routing, the clear no-frills UI.. i have a few niggles about my 47mm F7, sure, but my next watch is going to be a 7X, so just a size upgrade.

Sorry to say it Garmin.. I think you lost track for a bit and I truly hope some day y'all go back to the Fenix 5Plus, keep the stylish design, add multiband GNSS, add the Fenix 7 routing options and widgets, forget about solar, touch, music and all that other stuff I never use and present me with the most glorious and awesomest of all Fenixes and I will await you with open arms and wallet.

  • Yeah, not buying into cash-grab of Fenix 8. I just bought Fenix 7x pro. If the 8 had LTE, I would not think for a second.

Thankfully, most of the major sports tech reviewers seem to agree with us on this, and their voices are a lot louder than ours. I'm holding on to the hope that a future Fenix 8 "pro" (or whatever) will address our concerns about the path forward (or sideways? backwards?) that they've taken with the Fenix 8.

The dive addition was a welcome upgrade, as is the larger screens in the small and midsize models. And I do like the change they've made with solar as well, making the panel black and getting rid of the screen overlay. Those changes can stay, in my opinion. Everything else that's new feels like a step backwards to me. The UI changes are mostly awful. And the 51mm needs more upgrades than just the battery to justify the extra pricetag - bigger screen, more storage, etc. All of those are easy to do but for some reason they didn't.

  • I would like LTE so I can leave me phone at home, but since I bought a  tiny litltle Android phone (Jelly 2E) for taking with me  while running etc, I am perfectly happy with that solution.
