What features does the Fenix 9 need to have to make you upgrade?

Since the release of the Fenix 8 is imminent close and the related feature discussion is closed, let's start over:

Hey everyone, with the Fenix 9 takes a glimpse far, far away on the horizon, I'm curious—what would make you excited enough to upgrade? Whether it's better sensors, longer battery life, or some totally new feature we haven't seen before, what would make the next Fenix irresistible for you? Let's get a discussion going and share our wishlists for what we hope to see in the next generation!

Please also take the point in time with a good sense of humor, we're in a user forum to share thoughts and also have fun, right?

  • Thanks for this recommendation but I’d rather pay some extra for quality leather and no childs labor from China. Also the connection with the watch itself must be really secure for me to use it. Ok, €100 for a Garmin band is insane, but €7 is way to cheap.

  • It is your choice. I would not hesitate to give it a try. All you lose, if you are not satisfied with the quality of the strap, is €7.

  • It's a shame the 51mm and 47mm AMOLED fenix 8's will share the same 1.4" display.  Good news, I guess, for the 47mm fans; but disappointing for the 51mm fans.

The fenix 9 range would have to include a 51mm tactix model with a larger than 1.4" AMOLED display.

  • Yes!  That cheesy ring serves no purpose other than to make the display seem bigger than it is.

Waiting for Fenix 11 because I have a strong preference for prime numbers. And F11 has to look the same as the 6X Solar Titanium, which may be non-prime as well as past its prime, but still looks awesome.

In any case, my ideal new Fenix would be repairable: buttons, OHR sensor, battery, display, baro/temp sensor, midframe, backplate, etc. There would be a choice between Amoled and MIP display. The 51mm would have a larger usable screen area than the 47mm. Full documentation would be supplied. Some of you may be remember the documentation and schematics that came with televisions, radios, mainframe/midrange computers back in the day, to enable troubleshooting and repair. So you, a jeweler or phone shop could repair or upgrade your Fenix. In short, it would be like Fairphone. Well, I can dream. :-)

  • Totally agree. As a current Epix 51mm user I'm pretty disappointed with what I'm seeing about the Fenix 8 51mm. Doesn't even sound like the storage size was increased at all, still 32gb according to the only source that's mentioned anything about storage. Dive function and speaker/mic seems to be the main selling points.

  • Proper Wrist Heart Rate reading :)

  • Waiting to find out if the new devices have better performance or not. Map rendering leaves a lot to be desired.

Otherwise a pointless upgrade, based on what we know about the rest of the changes being introduced.

  • Marq charging plug and LTE functionality.

  • Imho software bugs are way too prevalent - average joe will experience a significant one at some point. In my case it was lack of sleep tracking - for no apparent reason and two major system crashes with my previous Fenix 6 watch. Garmin needs to invest in better software enginners and ditch those responsible for (or unable to fix) these never-ending software bugs and crashes happening to every Fenix series watch.
