Training readiness - almost always low, almost never good

Just wondering how Training Readiness is working for other users out there?

For me, the status is almost never good - I had it ONCE in many weeks now (was using beta firmware) that the watch told me I am ready to work out. It doesn't really matter what I do (sleep long, train more, train less, have a relaxing weekend etc), the training readiness status is always low (but changing numbers, so it is doing something).

I might feel top notch and well rested, like I could run an ultra marathon that day - but the watch tells me I am not ready. Pretty weird, and it has actually prevented me a few times to go out for a run before I realized that the metric does not work very well at all.

What are your experiences?

  • For me works really well. When I smashed myself on treadmill, next morning training readiness was 1 Smiley  Before run it was 68. It was Friday, so I intentionally smashed myself. It was fun to see how is coming back during the day. And it was following how I feel.

Training status also changed to productive. The highest training readiness I got was 85. It really well reflects my sleep, workout, stress, HRV...

  • Works well for me, what's your stress and sleep looking like. Connect should tell you what the issue is in the glances of training readiness.

  • Which factors when you go into the details are showing red? That should tell you why it is giving you a low score

  • Mine seems to work okay.

It was high before an endurance race over the weekend. After that, it was on 1 for a couple of days. It went to about 30 before yesterday's ride - and once that was physio true-upped to my watch (recorded on Edge) it went to 1 again. And on 3 this morning. Legs feeling okay, but not ready for any strenuous effort. And no, I was not laying around, recovering all the time, which is why I was not surprised that it remained low.

I've not been on 9.33 for long enough to have that full HRV reporting. At least I have a 7 day ave now.

  • I feel you, i constantly get Unproductive training status.

The only thing I figured out is, if I change Trail run to Hike, it changes the Load.

I rotate: Cycling, Trail run/Hike with the kid (he runs all the time, specially down hill), Swimming, Rowing.

I've observing now how this will change, once I replace Trail running/Hiking with Treadmill running, once the weather forces me to.

  • I’m finding it pretty useless always showing low, occasionally poor.
I get 8hrs sleep, eat well, don’t drink or smoke and represent GB at cross triathlon for age group. Yes I train 15hours a week, but with a coach and plan and in-line with all my peers.

  • Same here Ben, I’m a Ultramarathon Runner, I Box, go Cycling  and I lift weights, and have been doing this for 9 years, and well, adapted and strong but this device thinks I and well adapted and strong but this device treats I'm a 12 year weak girl. I would never make progress in my training if I was to listen to the watch.

  • Have the same experience with my Fenix 7x solar! Sleep well ~7 hours average), workout + run 6 days a week and a day of complete rest. Still always shows LOW training readiness. Have worn the chest strap while sleeping too to ensure HRV reading etc is accurate. All parameters fine except for training readiness!

  • I see this thread started 10 months ago.  Has anything changed with your "Training Readiness" as time goes on?  In other words, does the software adapt the "Training Readiness" based on the individual or does Garmin use a one solution fits all for all athletes?

  • Not really. What I did however was lower my standard sleep duration (from 8h to 7h in my case). So now the watch expect a shorter sleep, thus my training readiness is better. Basically, whenever I hit the (expected) 7h of sleep, my training readiness is higher. Kind of silly really, but at least it seems more accurate now.
