Fenix 7x Buttons issue

Hi there, new owner of Fenix 7x , I noticed that mainly the left buttons have the feeling of lightness and a little strange sound upon press & release them. However the buttons are 100% functional.

I had the fenix 6 pro before, with much better buttons, and I just wondering if it's normal or not.

  • Has anyone returned theirs and had a good replacement. I noticed the buttons are weird too. My back button and the up and down  buttons has a weird click to it. Other than that the watch is pretty good

  • As I can see we are all in the same boat. Personally I didn't return it, I will wait for a few weeks and I will decide later, as there is a small improvement until now. In my case now mainly the up-menu button still makes a weird click sound, but I think it's a little better than the first 2-3 days, or I just got used to it.

  • Quick update: Last week I used some Dry PTFE lubricant which cured the mushy/sticky left-side buttons on my fēnix 7. I'm pleased to report that after a week all the buttons remain consistent with a positive tactile response to presses.

For those considering exchanging their watches in the hope of finding one with better buttons, this may be an alternative quick fix for you.

  • My main issue was that the up and down buttons had noticeably less travel than the other buttons and didn’t click. When I’m running, especially with gloves on, I need to feel that click when I’m skipping songs by pressing the down button. Sometimes if the intro to the song is quiet I don’t know if I’ve skipped the track or not without the tactile feedback.

  • My down button was the worst and originally lacked the same range of motion as other buttons. As a runner too this made it very awkward during workouts with music although I could use my earbuds to skip tracks too.

All buttons now click on activation and return sharply whereas before (the down button in particular) would get stuck on retraction and remain partially depressed. This meant that follow-up presses would feel mushy, shallow with no click until the button freed up again! Thankfully this is now all solved.

  • This would be consistent with the message from Garmin Support, who told me that “there is some lubricant on the buttons that will work in with use over time”, although with my watch the buttons weren’t getting stuck on release, they simply had minimal travel to start with. My watch has since been returned to the retailer and I have a new watch arriving tomorrow so it will be interesting to see if it’s any better. It the replacement watch is exactly the same then I’ll just have to accept that this is by design.

  • Let us know how the replacement goes. I'm thinking of doing the same thing other than the buttons I have no issues just worried if I will get the same thing or worse.

  • I saw some people mention that adding a drop of lubricant to the buttons can help. I was doubtful but tried it: every issue I had is now corrected, this worked for me. The light and up buttons are smooth, no longer have a “second click”, and feel great. It seems some of these Fenix 7 units went out of the factory without lubricant in the button assembly. It’s been working well for a few days now. My issue is solved.

  • So I received a replacement Fenix 7S Sapphire Solar yesterday and I’m pleased to report that all 5 buttons click. Now if they could just fix the music…
