Start / stop button not working

My start / stop button has ‘stopped’ working. It started off as stiff and slow to respond and then this morning after a work out became very difficult to activate. I was able to stop and save my workout but now it refuses to operate at all. I have tried a reset but it appears to be button issue as opposed to a software one. I have had the watch for a couple of years so out of warranty. Anybody experienced the same and if so is there a way to fix, either by myself or external help? Love my watch and don’t really want to have to get a new one. Thanks in advance.
