I faced an issue after Garmin switched to sync over MTP only.
The watch was only charging over USB and didn’t prompt to switch to MTP, Windows PC can't recognize watches over USB.
I tried all the standard troubleshooting steps:
-
different USB cables
-
different PCs/Macs
-
different versions of Express
-
third-party apps like OpenMTP
-
even disassembled the watch to check that the USB connector was gently touching the PCB:)
But I didn’t want to lose my watch settings, so I decided to keep a reset as the last option.
A few days ago, I noticed that the watch wouldn’t connect to the saved Wi-Fi. After reconnecting to home WI-Fi, the sync over Wi-Fi worked successfully, and then MTP over USB also started working again.
If you found this message, probably it will help you, instead defaut answers about broken cables :)
