Issue with Garmin Fenix 6 Asia Sapphire (Suddenly Malfunctioning Since May 23, 2025)

Issue with Garmin Fenix 6 Asia Sapphire (Suddenly Malfunctioning Since May 23, 2025)

Several features have stopped working:

- Compass: Always points west (deviation 000).

- Pulse Oximeter: Shows "Version mismatch, update software."

- Heart Rate Sensor: Displays "---" even though the green light is on.

What I’ve tried:

- Soft reset

- Hard reset

- Factory reset

- Software update (via Garmin Connect & Garmin Express)

- Attempted manual firmware downgrade/upgrade using Fenix 6 Pro firmware (unsuccessful, likely due to differences between Fenix 6 Asia Sapphire and Fenix 6 Pro).

Current Watch Status:

- Software Version: 27.00

- GPS: 6.60

- Wi-Fi: 4.01

- CIQ: 3.4.5

- BMX: 0.0.0 (!)

- WHR: 0.00.00

- ANT/BLE/BT: 6.15

- Sensor Hub: 0.00

Strange Behavior:
When I connect the watch to Garmin Express, it shows 1 update available: "Install Sensor Update (Change Log)." After installing, the watch restarts, and briefly, the compass, heart rate, and Pulse Ox work normally—but after a few seconds, they stop again.

When I reconnect to Garmin Express, the same sensor update reappears (I’ve repeated this process multiple times with no success).
"It seems like the watch is deleting the update on its own."

Question:
Does anyone know a solution to this problem?
Thank you!

  • Hello

I am sorry to hear you are having this issue. Based on the troubleshooting steps you have already tried, it appears the watch would likely need to be replaced. For this, I would recommend reaching out to Garmin Product Support.

  • Thank you, I wonder, is the problem with my watch in the software or hardware? and when will the firmware update 28.02 be released for the Garmin Fenix 6 Asia Sapphire?

  • I found the solution to my problem by doing the following:

    1. Opening the Case and Disconnecting Connectors:

      • I opened the case of my Garmin watch.

      • I disconnected the LCD connector, the battery-to-motherboard connector, and the barometric sensor connector.

      • I left the watch disassembled for about 30 minutes to allow the components to reset.

    2. Reassembling Carefully:

      • I reconnected all the components, making sure that all connectors were securely and properly attached.

      • I double-checked that there were no loose connections.

    3. Cleaning the Rear Sensor:

      • I cleaned the rear sensor using a cloth slightly dampened with alcohol (preferably isopropyl alcohol).

      • I carefully used a needle to remove dirt or debris around the sensor edges without damaging any components.

    4. Powering On and Updating:

      • I turned the watch back on.

      • I connected it to my computer and performed a firmware update using Garmin Express.
