USB failure after 28.00 update reverted to 27.00 official

Recently i have had a very bad experience with my garmin fenix 6 pro solar. Received an update to 28.00 thab suddenly my usb connection was messed up. Very difficultly managed to get it bac to 27.00, however my usb still dead.

Current symptoms:

Sometimes connecting after plugging unplugging for several minutes.

When its connecting windows says Device Descriptor failed to load, than i have an unidentified device with a warning triangle on the device manager.

Or when it finally make a connection and the device appears as "garmin fenix 6 pro, I can open it in the file manager, but as soon i start copying anything onto it it disconnects and windows just stating the obvious "device was disconnected or no longer available"

Troubleshooting i have done so far:

use of different official garmin cables USB-A or USB-C, yealded no results

I have also tried several computers, including my latitude rugged tablet and laptop, my alienware laptop, my windows server, my friends computers, yielded no result.

Also tested with differend operating systems, windows 10, windows 11, many many linux distros. still disconnects, linux dont have a clue what to do with the device.

So my fenix 6 pro solar is dead. Time to look for another smart watch.

  • Its unlikely the update caused this - it looks like a hardware problem.  Another thing to try is to clean the connector on the watch.  WD40 and a toothbrush should do the trick - just make sure everything is clean and dry before trying to connect again.

  • Thank you ronand, I am in electronics repair and design, wd40 isn't the proper cleaner for circuits and contacts. Looks the problem is with the flip-flops that switching around th usb data + / - polarity for the connector. Charging is working fine, either directions. I have never used aftermarket cables with my watch.
