Fenix 6X to 8 pro

Have had a fenix 6x for four years or so - still works well. Thinking about the 8 pro. How much more accurate is the HR monitor on the 8 vs the 6? I think it's the same monitor as the 7x so maybe the question is how much more accurate is the 7/8 HR monitor than what's on the 6x? Thanks.

  • The sensor in Phoenix 6 is good, and it didn’t get better with 7 and 8, and even worse,
because Garmin's software has been disgusting lately, and they don't do anything about it! they don't care about their consumers because they have conquered the watch market enough not to improve their products rather than spend money on eliminating the causes of errors! Watch owners constantly complain about crooked software, but Garmin released Instnct 3 with absolutely no changes from 2x!
  • There are 2 ohr sensor upgrades between Fenix 6 and 8.

    Fenix 6: Elevate 3

    Fenix 7: Elevate 4

    Fenix 7 pro/Fenix 8: Elevate 5

Fenix 8 pro: not on the market yet, maybe Elevate 6?

All in all, no big differences between them considering HR. Some people might experience a slight improvement, others won't see any difference. The major upgrade of Elevate 5 was that it added ECG (in certain areas of the world) and skin temperature.

  • The quantified scientist did a youtube video on the 8. watch it. Not sure it is worth the price tag.

I don't trust anything that idiot says...

In fact, based on personal experience, if he says he doesn't like something, it encourages me even more to try it.

  • Funny, I like the guy. Although in all his videos the only thing I am interested in is the heart rate comparison with the chest strap. All the other metrics, I really do not care.

The problem is that it is quite individual, just like almost all other metrics the Quantified PseudoScientist tests. AFAIK, he only tests on himself (unless it changed recently). What works for one person, may not work for others. And vice versa. That's not how science is done. It would be OK if he called himself Personal Reviewer, but using the word Scientist (in plus in connection with the completely profaned and abused fashion term "quantum") is something that screams "scam".

For example I am getting a perfect match between the internal sensor and HRM-Pro even with the Elevate 4 sensor. In the same time you'll find countless of people here on the forum telling you the sensor is unusable. Have a look at the following thread for the graphs showing the comparison: https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/instinct-3/400680/anyone-bought-a-instinct-3-50mm-yet-can-share-experience

OK, I posted a test there too, but I do not claim that it is (quantified) science. It is just my personal experience, and I know that what applies for me, is not necessarily what all others will see too.

  • You are absolutely right. My 6 pro has a very good accuracy with heart rate and I am anal about it. I think the issue is hardware related   Before my 6 pro, I had bought two 6s that I returned as the heart rate was all wrong. I would go up and down the stairs and my heart rate would max out at 80 when my strap connected to the phone would show 110. My 6 pro matches perfectly. The only issue would be weight lifting but I use a chest strap when I workout anyway.
