Garmin Fenix 6 Pro - dead battery after less than 3.5 years

I would like to point out the following:

The battery on my Garmin Fenix 6 Pro stopped working after less than 3.5 years. The official Garmin "service" says that the battery cannot be replaced. According to Garmin, the only solution is to throw away the perfectly working device (only because of the battery) and buy a new one.

I find this kind of environmental policy completely wrong and I do not accept it. In a way, I also feel misled, because I think they should have warned me before buying that the device is not repairable and that even the battery cannot be replaced.

Please take the above into consideration before deciding to purchase a Garmin device.

  • There are quite a few discussions with instructions here and in general on the web, on replacing batteries yourself. Garmin probably only offers out of warranty replacement (still cheaper than a new watch) but if your watch is dead, you have nothing to lose by replacing the battery (by a phone shop, jeweler, electronics shop or by yourself). Battery replacement as a service for phones becomes more common, hopefully that will also happen for watches.

  • It's true, there are providers who claim they can replace the battery, but none of them issue a warranty on water resistance, which is crucial for a sports watch by my opinion and use.

  • That waterproof warranty is probably the reason Garmin doesn't offer battery replacement but only refurbished devices. I never swim with watches in which I have replaced the battery myself as a matter of principle, I may think I have always been super careful replacing the gasket, but who says I was careful enough..
