Time taken for Garmin to exchange Fenix 6S?

I've raised an exchange request for a Fenix 6S Sapphire and to pay for a replacement, which all looked fine until the order shows a five to eight week processing time.

I'm just wondering if anyone has done this recently in the UK and how long it took?  I was expecting it to be reasonably quick since they were simply exchanging the watch rather than replace it, if it's going to take over a month though I may need to rethink this

  • Your watch has been discontinued by Garmin, so there would be some question about availability - let alone the time required to source a replacement watch.

    FYI

  • Yes I'm well aware the watch is discontinued but it's Garmin that offered this option  and they're also not offering the same colour instead only the option of a black watch so it would be reasonable assume they can supply a watch.  Also this isn't a new watch, it's a refurbished one and it isn't uncommon for companies to exchange for a refurb device instead of taking longer to repair the existing device and send it back,

  • Give them a call and ask what the status is. I use older Garmins a lot for particular use cases. The risk of exchange, paid or not, is that you often don't get the same model. If they have not sent anything after 3 weeks I l'd call them.  Sometimes they think a certain model is in stock, but turns out it isn't. And then you have to negotiate for a bit. Sometimes it works out better than others.

As with any "legacy"/"vintage" device: if you absolutely need a certain model, you can't get around buying a few of them, including broken ones for parts, and find out what battery you need and where to buy it. Fenix models that can be opened with screws front and back are quite repairable, I do not know about the 6s.

  • I was advised when speaking to Garmin that they couldn't offer a replacement watch in the same colour (rose gold) and instead it would be a black one hence I thought they must be offering a watch they actually have in stock.

I'm not bothered which model they exchange it for as long as it's the same or better in functionality, it's just I don't want to be without a newer watch for a couple of months.

I've decided to proceed with the exchange so will just have to wait and see now.
