SOLVED: Fenix 6S Pro: Cannot set or sync time - keeps changing back to incorrect time...

Hi Guys,

My Fenix 6S Pro was left unused for about 6 weeks, during which time the battery drained.

Recharged it today, but noticed the time was out, so I went into settings and (firstly) manually set the time to the correct time.

Then when I went back to the main screen, the time had changed back to the 'wrong' time.

Okay, I thought, get the time to sync with the GPS - which I did. When I exit back to the main screen , once again the time has gone back to the wrong time.

Also, when I have it connected, via USB, to my computer, the 'charging screen' shows the correct time, but when I disconnect the watch, it seems to restart (shows the "loading Maps" message), then when the main screen pops up, it again shows the wrong time...

Cannot figure out what's going on.

In addition, the date is also wrong, but there is no setting anywhere I can see to change the date (which is crazy in itself).

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Mike.

  • Hello

I am sorry to hear the time on the watch is not correct. For this, have you ensured the phone's time and location settings are correct? And is the location service for the Connect set to Always?  You will also want to ensure the Connect app is open and running in the background on the phone.

If this does not correct this concern, I would recommend completing a factory reset on the watch with these steps:

    1. Ensure the watch is powered off.
      • You may need to hold LIGHTfor up to 30 seconds to turn the watch off.
    2. Press and hold BACK and START/STOP.
    3. Press LIGHT to power the watch on while holding these two buttons.
    4. After the first beep release START/STOP.
    5. After the second beep release the remaining button.

If the issue continues, you will want to reach out to Garmin Product Support.

  • Thanks for the reply...

I don't have a mobile phone, so don't use the app...

However, after powering down the phone (several times) and then trying the sync time with GPS option another couple of times. It eventually updated the time (and eventually!) the date correctly.

Still puzzled as to why it would do this... I guess it's a lesson to never let the battery drain completely!

    Cheers,

    Mike.

  • Indeed, never let the battery go entirely flat. It is bad for the battery, and even though the watch does continue updating its internal clock after it has gone in extremely low power sleep mode, that is not indefinete. At some point it just does not update its clock anymore.

Proper time is really important for the software,  if the time on a watch is incorrect it can be a bit unpredictable in behavior and time sync with GPS is IMHO the best way to get it back on track, but it takes some persistence because the CPE satellite orbit prediction data will be outdated.
