Activity does not start and screen is frozen

Hi,

When willing to start a new activity, I just press the start button once, and once the GPS is checked, I press it a second time to really start the activity.

For the last past month, I had some issues with this last action though, and sometimes the watch screen stays frozen, activity does not launch. The only way to access the watch is a forced reset (long press on the Power button till the watch switches off). This issue happens all the time on the start line of races : so I had to start my races even marathon with no watch, which is really problematic.

I would ask for a replacement of my watch - if possible before end of September to be able to have it for my next race !

Thanks.

  • Hello

I am sorry to hear you are having this issue. If the watch is freezing, I would recommend trying first to remove the stored files from the watch. This would include Activities, Courses, Workouts, Locations, Remotes SW and New Files.

    1. Connect the watch with a Windows computer
    2. Open the watch drive
    3. Open the Garmin folder
    4. Locate and delete the contents for the above folders
    5. Disconnect the watch from the computer

I would then recommend complete a hard reset. For this, hold the Light button until the watch shuts off, as opposed to selecting power off. Then power this on again.

If this is still behaving the same, I would recommend completing a factory reset with these steps:

    1. Ensure the watch is powered off.
      • You may need to hold LIGHTfor up to 30 seconds to turn the watch off.
    2. Press and hold BACK and START/STOP.
    3. Press LIGHT to power the watch on while holding these two buttons.
    4. After the first beep release START/STOP.
    5. After the second beep release the remaining button.

If there is no change, this device will likely need to be replaced. For this, you will want to contact Garmin Product Support.

  • Thank you Laurie. Problem is : the only way I can check this for sure is during a race... and I do not have one prior to my marathon. Not sure I am willing to take the risk on D-Day either... Any chance to solve it with a replacement ?

I already tried hard reset and factory reset after it happened the first time and it did not work out.

  • Hello Laurie, it unfortunately did not work and there are a lot of functions which I can not use, such as Bluetooth and wifi connection. Sometimes the watch is also not recognized by my computer. I wrote to the Product support but I got no answer. Any chance you can forward my request ?
