Fenix 6 not holding charge

For the last two days my Fenix 6 has not been holding a charge.  I can charge to 100% which used to last 14 days, but now the watch is dead after sitting overnight.  I haven’t been wearing it at night so it’s not reading anything.  The watch is only 3 years old, could the battery already be dead?  Can I get replacement batteries?

  • The watch is reliable; reliably poor battery life now.  Six days is the repeatable length it holds charge instead of 14 days.  I may have to look for another brand or model, as I can’t see spending this kind of money on a watch without an easily replaceable battery.

  • That couldn't be a solution. Before version 27, even with Bluetooth, wifi and all connected, there wasn't any problem with battery levels. Now yes. The solution is to silve the bugs of this version or to change to other manufacturer: coros or suunto.

With only 3years of life it is a shame ti have this problems. We have soon 2 ultratrails where we have to follow gps track and we are sold.

  • I have the same issue, it started about the same time. My watch is about the same age... I'm not sure, but I think the performance declined after the last update...

  • Mine also has started doing this, charge it 19 days usage then next time I look at it and it's on 2 days out of nowhere, always charged it 80% to 20% what's going on Garmin?

  • I can't believe it but I am joining this club :-(

My 6X has a chronological age of 2.5 years, it is a refurbished unit from Garmin and I have used it for almost 2 years for GPS activities (around 10 hours each week). Battery used to last 1 week, now it is 1 - 2 days. Overnight (no activity tracking on, just lying on a desk in power save mode) 15% battery drain. It was quite a surprise, one day I picked the watch up in the morning, 85% charge, recorded 1 activity, wanted to use it for another activity in the evening and it was at 1%.

I tried all the usual like a full reset, it has no CIQ apps or watchfaces on it. V27.00 has been on it since the beta, no settings changed, phone connection only active a few hours each week. Most definitely this is not a bug in V27.00, but battery aging.

I am now turning the unit off after each activity and make sure it is charged before I head out, which is OK for my use of this device. But I had not counted on having to replace the battery so soon, the battery in my Fenix 5 Plus battery lasted 4 years.

Edit: If I do not use battery saver mode, the overnight battery usage is normal, even with activity tracking on.  Scratching head now.

It is a real shame that there is no battery replacement service. I would not mind paying for it. But even if you consider paying 200-250 euro for replacing the entire unit as reasonable price (I guess so), you don't get your own device back, sometimes not the same model. Perhaps I am sentimental, but this 6X has traveled so much, the scratches on it are my scratches, I don't want to part with it.

  • Is there an aftermarket source for batteries, or a spec I should look for?  I did find a local jeweler who does watch repairs that said he could solder in the replacement if I sourced the battery.

  • I have not looked for a battery yet. There is a good picture of the battery (with specs) on this page:

  • Thanks for that. My only concern is that the link is for a 6X battery which I think is larger than the one in my 6 Pro.  I seem to remember that one plus for the larger 6X model was increased battery life, which I think would require a larger battelry.

  • I've not had any drop off at all so to go from normal behaviour  to 2 days left reeks of a fault and not degradation
