Straighten recorded track

Hi,

not really Fenix 6 related but is there a SW tool available to straighten the gps track after the activity?

Especially when hiking very slow in the mountains the position jumps frequently and this adds quite a distance to the real distance. Can be easily 30%. The SW should just delete the unrealistic points where I suddenly jump 50m in more less zero time.

Btw, when was the last Beta version released/out?

The watch uses a combination of GPS and accelerometer data to calculate the distance, hence even if there were dropouts of the GPS signal, the resulting distance should be roughly all right (assuming the watch has sufficient historical data, and the distance estimation is already well calibrated).

If it still shows too big distance, you can edit the activity and change the distance. The track can be edited only if you save the activity as Course, and edit it in the Training & Planning » Courses section of Garmin Connect. You can also export the activity as GPX and edit it with an external tool.

That's is not what I'm looking for. Basically it should extract the data from the fit file, delete all unrealistic points and write a new fit file.

There is nothing like that. The only options you have, are those I described in my previous post.

Also, make sure you are using "Every Second" rather than "Smart Recording"

ETA: Also experiment to see if GPS + GLONASS or GPS + GALILEO give you better results depending on your typical location.

Garmin is already applying some mechanisms to compensate bad GPS for distance calculation. Usually, these mechanisms are overdoing it and people end up with a too short distance, that's why your post surprised me. Can you share an example where distance is 30% too long?

Looks like you're right. Just checked two longer hokes from last year. When have they started with it?

I would say it was always like this on the fenix 6 series.
