On going software issues

Recently there were several updates made and I'm trying to sort out everything that has changed. Most noteably:

Before the update, the fenix 6 sapphire would lose its entire connection and registry with the garmin app and the phone after restart, battery dead shutdown and most noteably (and frustrating) after bluetooth disconnect / reconnect.

Now, after the update, the watch reconeects and connects with the phone regulartly and alerts the user via the watch face of the disconnect / reconnect. However, whatever has been done to remedy that issue has not made the watch use an excessive amount of battery. I have noted over the last few days that starting from 50% battery, the watch will drain to less than 10% over a 10 hr period of standard (watch only) mode. I have only HR turned on, notifications as normal and the pulse ox turned off. The watch would typically last 5 plus days in "watch only" mode in the past. Whatever has changed, it will barely make it 2 days on that charge now.

Nothing has been done to the watch physically to harm it, drop it, etc. It is well taken care of.

A side note and question for the community, has anyone else experienced issues with the watch having broken connections to earbuds when running with the Tri Band on? It seems like since the band also uses bluetooth that it possibly intereferes with the watch transmitting the signal to the headphones, that or maybe the output of the bluetooth from the watch is too low? Maybe this has changed since the update, it's now winter where i live so i have not ran in a while to test the update against this issue.

Fenix 6 Sapphire paired with Samsung S23 Ultra

  • It might be a problem on your phone. There are indeed numerous posts from S23 owners in various parts of Garmin's forums, describing connectivity problems. First of all I would check whether your phone's OS is up-to-date. Then, have a look at the Sync / Connection Troubleshooting Guide, especially the hints #24 & #25 - those were reported to help, by some Samsung S23 phone owners.

  • What do you mean recently there were several updates?  We haven't had a watch update in a very long time - there have been Beta versions but you need to sideload those.

What changes do you refer to?

I find when running with my F6Pro and my HRM-Run I get broken music for the first ~5 minutes then the watch seems to correct itself, it's like it starts outputting a higher power or something.  I have a HRM-Run, a Foot Pod and a Tempe connected.

  • I had plenty of issues with 26.0 too — my sensors all went haywire. Double-logging my active calories; no body battery; weird aberrations in my stress score; no HRV after sleep. I called Garmin. I went through all the steps. They were very nice. Tried to have me pay for a replacement but I got them to waive the fee. I told them it was clear to me that this was a software issue, as the watch has been totally fine for years and experienced no new physical hardships. I think something is very wrong with their latest batch of software updates. I have received my replacement watch today and am afraid to update the software lest it all happen again!
