HRV status not recording but everything else working.

I recently bought a Fenix 6S and it successfully records everything else (heart rate, stress, activity, body battery etc) except the HRV status.

I've had it for a while now, wear it to bed and make sure it's snug and worn properly and have been hoping it would will just start working. But weeks later it still hasn't.

I've tried checking settings but can't see anything that indicates it being turned off. Hoping someone can help me resolve this so I can get it recording. What am I missing?

  • Has it been 3 weeks? According to Garmin's support document - HRV Status on Compatible Garmin Watches

The watch requires three weeks of consistent sleep data to establish your normal baseline range, and that range will continue to adjust over time.

  • I have the same problem, it used to work, every generic answer which states we have to wear it for 3weeks is ***. I guess there is a bug within the software causing untracking of hrv.

  • I had the same issue, fairly recently. The only thing that helped me was firmware update, or in this case, firmware reinstall. No reset, but full reinstall

  • I have the same problem here w/ Instinct Solar 2x. ...and yes, wore it for over 3 weeks, the last week appears on the watch Glances.

Disconnected the watch from the GC and unpaired it. Synced via both blue tooth and Express, did a soft reset... actually did everything except standing on my head. Software Version 13.21.

A hard reset is not an option. Now what?

  • As I mentioned, only firmware update helped. So if you don't have beta available, only reinstalling firmware will help. Which will probably reset the watch as well, I am not sure about that tho.

So, sadly, hard reset is always an option. And I might do that again soon, as sometimes the watch doesn't record stuff from midnight up until battery saver turns off in the morning. But only after midnight, not since battery saver turns on

  • i found that there now is a new toggle (or it was there all along but set to true)

System --> Data Recording --> Log HRV

was disabled for some Reason on my Instinct 2 Solar

HRV is recorded and accessible on the watch and not available in Garmin Connect since roughly 16 days now for me

just found this now, will report if this fixes it in GC tomorrow

  • "Data Recording: Sets how the watch records activity data. The Smart recording option (default) allows for longer activity recordings. The Every Second recording option provides more detailed activity recordings, but may not record entire activities that last for longer periods of time." - this is from the Owner's Manual.
Does it have to do only with redording during activities? I'm not sure it has to do w/ overnight monitoring...

  • there is a menu point System --> Data Recording --> Frequency

that is exactly what the manual mentions

however i could find another entry System --> Data Recording --> Log HRV that was new to me and that was set to off

i set it to true yesterday and it showed me the HRV in Garmin Connect again today

Watch is Garmin Instinct 2 Solar

    Software Version 13.21

  • That is interesting, because "Log HRV" option is set for activities when you are wearing chest strap. When you turn it on, you have your HRV data saved in the .fit file. It has nothing to do with overnight HRV monitoring

you can then check it in, for example, runalyze.com

  • interesting, will check out if they ever appeared in my runalyze before

maybe it fiddles with an internal HRV setting that then enables it again, so its just by accident that this fixes it

or maybe some other thing i did yesterday fixed it for me

    worth a try though

edit: i had them in Runalyze before and am missing the same data that is not showing in Garmin Connect
