VO2Max and training status completely stuck for over half a year now.

Pretty much what the title says.

I don't really care, I know that these are just algorithms that estimate my values, but this used to be flagship product (I mean it still is, just no longer the latest one), I'm simply wondering what's happening.

I know for a fact that I'm a better runner than a year ago, I started marathon plan in november, and the pace that I could barely hold for 20km (I mean it was max effort) is my 'medium hard' now.

However, the VO2Max won't budge at all, and training status is either "maintaining" or "strained".

What's up with that, anyone?

  • My vo2max did go up last week when i changed my cycling workout and my training went to productive. Back to maintaining but Vo2max is still up.

  • Add me to this list! (and I've seen DCRainmaker comment on it as well). My VO2max used to move up and down a little every few days-week or so, but since Oct 19th 2022 it's moved only from 45 to 46 (in the past I've been as high as 52) and my training status has been "maintaining" about 95% of that time. This is despite going from running about 8-10 mpw to consistently near 30 mpw, I can do double the speedwork I could back then, and I spend all my time in Z2 HR during an easy run at a pace where I used to spend all my time in Z3.

On top of that, VO2max is ml of O2 per minute, PER KILOGRAM, and I've lost 10% of my weight since October (205->185#). So even if I can consume only the same O2 per minute, since Garmin knows my weight has dropped 10% (my scale syncs to Connect, and it shows there), that alone should have increased my VO2max from 45 to about 49.

I have a Forerunner 255. My girlfriend had a 245 and switched to a 265 about a month ago, and her VO2 max hasn't changed in forever despite running over 40 mpw for months now.

  • Same here for months, this weekend I run a marathon in 2:59:55, no change in vo2 and my predicted marathon time is 3:21:04 Joy

  • Same problem. No change in VO2 max in over a year but my training efforts and fitness have improved drastically.
