Wlan Wi-Fi connection error Unable to Connect to Server, Try Again

I tried to sync with WLAN today and the attempt failed.
Not only did this message appear, but also "Unable to connect to server. Try later."

What's going on there again?

  • Ok, watched the thing a little bit and tried to remember.
So, I'm sure the bug was fixed in the beta 23.84 but it was not communicated by Garmin.
The FW 24.00 I have skipped and have only reinstalled the Alpha 24.77 because there the error with the termination of the battery saving mode was fixed, but the error occurred that you could no longer pair BT earpieces, only with the Alpha 24.78 this was corrected.
But whether already with the 24.77 no more synchronization was possible or only from 24.78 I have not investigated.
Anyway, I still have the 24.78 on my watch and it says at the first attempt > no server and the subsequent 2.Versuch > failed.
Data, except HFV, but still transferred.
In other respects I find it strange when I test my Wifi connection via GC:
    1. the attempt is always successful
    2. although on the watch the wifi connection is turned off, the watch says > connection with network successful.

  • Hi,

Thanks for your feedback, i encounter the same behaviour. And identify an additional pattern, but manual sync do not work.

what do you think of ?

    Model - Fenix 6 Pro

    • System - 25.10
    • Wi-Fi - 4.01

    iPhone 13 Mini - iOS 16.3.1

    Garmin Connect - 4.64.1

Regarding the third test, i can reproduce it most of the time, otherwise it simply failed to connect to Wi-Fi.

    Wi-Fi other informations

    • After an activity, i saw Wi-Fi sync working (sometimes) when phone BT is not connected and sometimes it doesn't work. "messages info in the reduce space in top of the screen"
    • Music App - From the Watch - i can browse, sync, add new playlists wihtout any issue

    • If an issue occurred very shortly after saving an activity:
      1. Do you have a wifi network added?
      2. Is the "Auto Upload" setting enabled? (Main Menu - Connectivity - Wi-Fi - Auto Upload)
      3. Were you within (or near the edge of) wifi range when saving?

My Home WiFi networking perfectly regarding Music App, from the watch (sync, update, browse, etc.).

I tried WiFi sync with the same environement (position in the house, or 2-3 meters next to the WiFi box.

    • If you have an issue with your home wifi network:
      1. What model router are you using, and what security settings are set on your network?

  • Thanks socorsu for your confirmation.
Thought it was the clock or the FW.
But yours is the 25.10, if I see that correctly and so an update makes no sense for me.
So let's see if Garmin-Chris would like to say something or can say.
In any case, it is a (further) limitation of the functionality of the Fenix 6.

  • I don't have the problem, Wi-Fi-Sync works fine for me.

Watch model - Fenix 6 Pro Sapphire Titanium
    System - 25.10
    Wi-Fi - 4.01

Phone: Poco F2 pro (Android 12)
    Garmin Connect - 4.64

Router: Fritzbox 7590 (SSID not hidden)

  • Thanks for your feedback, my SSID is not hidden like you, following Garmin prerequisite.

In my case i saw Wi-Fi sync working (sometimes) after an activity (without phone BT connection) and sometimes it doesn't work.

  • Just checked the WiFi sync also and first time ever mine is also not working. "Unable to connect to the server" or "Sync failed" message.

    Fenix 6x, fw 25.10, wifi 4.01

  • I complete my reply, with these precisions below https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/fenix-6-series/327220/wlan-connection-again/1590816#1590816

  • I just tried disconnect BT and sync WIFI but I got message sync failed. However before the error message the "syncing" status was there and changed to "sync failed" My GC was opened during this test.

I did second test when my BT was connected and GC again was opened. The error message was "no wifi network found"

Another observation these messages seems to me just changing one to another one. On the second test I got messages like, "sync failed, no wifi network found, unable to connect to the server"

  • So we have different results so far.
For some it works without problems with FW 25.10, for others with the same FW not or only partially.
This cannot and should not be due to the hardware, even if components from different manufacturers were used.
As written, before beta 23.84 it did not work, with 23.84 it was unconsciously? fixed and now it does not work again, at least that is how it is displayed. However, data is still transferred except for the HFV value.
A test connection via GC is always successful ! even if WiFi on the clock is not turned on at all ??
With this reliability ?! I wonder how professional devices for aviation and shipping perform ?
Maybe the clocks are too simple to be reliable.
Anyway, Garmin should take a stand on this.
