IF you don't have your phone handy it will still sync via wifi when you reach a location with wifi. That's the only use I can think of, other than file transfer for music storage (via spotify etc) is likely to be quicker than via bluetooth.
Thanks for that James
emailed Garmin 3 days ago and heard nothing
I hope their customer is better than this
I left Polar because of the same reason
Hope it’s not that way with them
Only marketing. You can do any synchronization either using the app on your phone or using a computer. But in the pro version there are two other advantages: the amount of memory (can be used for music) and the maps/navigation.
Not really marketing to say you can sync if you don't have your watch or computer with you. Whether you use that or not is a different question.
Thanks for that info OSha
Won’t really affect me then as this is specifically for motocross
So music and maps wont be needed
Well that drops the second hand price for me now o don’t have to get Pro version
Thanks guys, just the info I needed
I meant that with Wi-Fi, this synchronization will take place just a little faster than via Bluetooth. That is, you can safely do without WiFi.
I’d like to update my previous post where I said I had contacted Garmin 3 days ago and haven’t had a reply
A Garmin rep did contact me this afternoon and I could see my initial email was only sent yesterday
Seemed a lot longer ago
My mistake and apology
But the link that was given didn’t really help me understand if Wi-Fi was needed
So thanks again to the guys that posted here who helped me make that decision
Wifi seems pretty useless to me, the syncing via wifi takes forever and my workouts seems to be more consistently synced via bluetooth.
I have had a few Garmin models that have it. I have always viewed it as a useful extra as I am not glued to my smartphone, I never run with it. In the past I have run with my club finishing at locations that have WiFi and have set up the Garmin to connect to these. I mean it isn't earthshattering but is a nice feature you can ignore if you don't use it. Even runs starting and ending at my house upload this way.
Thanks for this
