Map update error TopoActive Europe 2022.10

I was updating my F6X Pro Solar but then my son took the charging cable (he didn't know that I was updating) to charge his own Garmin watch. So the update process was aborted. Later, when I tried to update my Fenix again, I only get error message "There was an error installng the update". I tried with different computer -> same result. I believe the problem is in the watch.

Any ideas how to recover from this?

Hard reset -> no help. How do I do the forced software resinstall?

The error occurs almost right away when I click the Install button. The GE doesn't even start to download the map file. GE just shows "there was an error installing the update".

I have contacted Garmin support and they are investigating this. Let's see what they answer. I'll be back here and tell how this ends.

This gives me another idea. What if the file has already on your pc, in a corrupted form and ge cannot remove/overwrite it.

But as I remember you wrote you tried another pc/laptop, not just the one which was involved in the event of your kid’s unplug move. If I remember well then it is not about a corrupted map file.

Hi. Garmin support was not able to solve this problem. I got a new (refurbished) watch.

I believe I tried all possible things

factory resets
different computers with different OSs (and clean garmin express installs)
removed certain files from the watch
added map files manually from my brother's watch -> I saw the maps but the update still failed.

With the same computer and same Garmin Express, I was able to update the maps of my son's Fenix without any problems. The problem is in the watch and there is something that can't be fixed. Maybe flash memory corrupted for good during the update that was interrupted and especially the point in the memory where the map data is stored. Regular updates to the software is working just fine.
