Lost Bluetooth pairing with Android 13 (Pixel 6)

Today I noticed that my Fenix 6 was no longer connecting through Garmin Connect.  I've had numerous Garmin watches over the years, always on Android devices. I've never had this much of a challenge. I did several things:

1.  Cycled Bluetooth, removed device from Bluetooth list, did not help.

2.  Rebooted phone and watch, did not help

3.  "Forgot" device from Garmin connect, did not help

4.  Reinstalled Garmin connect, did not help

5.  Attempted to clear the Bluetooth cache on my phone, found out they disabled this in Android 13 :(

6.  Reset all wireless connection.  Unfortunately, this resets all of my saved Wi-Fi connections as well as Bluetooth. Even more unfortunately, it did not help.

My phone is seeing the Fenix 6 on the Bluetooth list, the Garmin connect app sees the watch.  But when I try to pair, it will occasionally let me put in the six digit pin, but the connection fails every time.  It tells me that I have entered an incorrect pin even though it is correct.

I feel like I have tried everything. I doubt it is something inherent to the watch. It must have something to do with Android 13. I searched the archives and noted that several people were having this issue 5 months ago. Not sure whatever came of it. I'm a little nervous that I am the only one who is recently having this issue. If it was related to some sort of a small update, I figured I would not be the only one.

Does anyone have any ideas?  Syncing with a wire is tedious Disappointed

  • I can't help you, only say that my Pixel 6 with Android 13 and my 6 pro have no problems with the BT-connection.
    Pixel 6 > Security update January 5
                > Play system update November 1
    Fenix 6 > Firmware Alpha 24.78

  • Update: I did a support call with Google, and they walked me through several additional steps, none of which help. I then did a factory wipe of the phone and started from scratch. While this took some effort to reinstall everything, everything now connects normally through Bluetooth.

So, in summary, if anyone has a similar issue where they lose Bluetooth connectivity between there Fenix and a Pixel 6, a full wipe of the phone and starting from scratch maybe the fix. I'm not sure what provoked it, but at least I'm back in business.
