Tiny hole in the charging port

Hi everyone,

Two weeks ago I bought a brand new Garmin Fenix 6 pro while I was taking it of the charger I noticed a small crack inside the charging pin plastic . I have attached photo . You can clearly see the crack. So I contacted the authorized Garmin service center in my country and brought them the watch. When i went the leave the watch the guy at the service center told me that there is no way that I was given the watch this way and that the watch was opened . We got in a bit of argue but we both agree that i would leave the watch in order for the other colleague of him to inspect it . And in a few days I received a phone call from the send technical “specialist “ saying that this is not a manufacturing defect but it is just normal .

so please let me know have you had this issue and have you raised it to Garmin service.

  • I also have the section marked in green, but not the two marked in red.
It looks as if a pointed object was used to "work" there.

  • Yes it looks like it was punctured. The green arrow is tiny bump for the charger to stay in place

  • Sent a brand new watch for warranty because of this and a button that was weird.

Got a new watch that looked the same at the charge port. Never had an issue with it so I guess it's "normal" like they say :)

  • Well if it was a 100 $ yeah sure no problem low quality materials and poor quality control sure . But for a premium 10x 100$ I can not accept it . And yea sure it will last the warranty period but after that what ? And as I have encountered the after warranty service of Garmin I can tell you there is no such service. I have tried to repair a after warranty watch in their service at my country and no success.

  • I just looked at the charging port in my fenix 6 pro. There's a chunk of plastic missing on the other side from yours. I have no idea if this is normal or a defect, or if it affects the watch in any way, e.g. is an entry point for water.

In any case I've always used a plastic covers on my Garmin watches to protect the charging port. They're available inexpensively on sites like Amazon and eBay and even more inexpensively on AliExpress.

  • Hi,

Very interesting post, i check this on my near 3 years old F6Pro, and quite the same scratch on my connector !

Like said green one, but scracth on the base not identical to you.

I'm not afraid, because my watch already go to sea and swiming pool, multiple times, and many sweat and rain during trail/running.

Maybe we shared the same QA process at Garmin side, i can do joke because my watch is old now and don't suffer of this Grin

  • As far as I know about the plastic cover it is bad for the watch , because it keeps moisture trapped there and the pins get corroded. I am not using them on my watch . But regaining the hole it is obviously not a one time problem . I will be glad if more people confirm about this problem so it can be resolved from Garmin side

  • well yes same tiny hole in your port also , apparently it is a quality issue. I hope that Garmin is reading this and can address this issue .

I've been using these plugs on an Instinct for over 2 years and now a fenix 6 pro with no signs of corrosion. I don't immerse these watches in water so perhaps that's why. I can appreciate that those who shower or swim while wearing their watch may have this concern.

I swim, sea or pool, several times most weeks and shower after every activity with mine. No signs of corrosion. The key is to ensure the watch is dried, and particularly the charging port before charging.
