10k PB slower than average pace for the whole run

I’m trying to start running again now I’ve hit 40 and after a few weeks training thought I’d test myself this morning with a 10k time trial to see if I could crack an hour.

I stopped my watch after 6.3 miles to make sure I’d crossed the line and it gave me a PB of 1.00.05 so close! Mildly disappointing but never mind, checked the run again once it has uploaded to GC and it’s giving me an average pace (total not moving I didn’t have to stop at all) of 5:55 for the 10.15km but the records page shows an average pace for the 10km of 6:01.

What’s going on there?

  • I think for every activity that is longer than 10.000m Garmin search for the 10k that gives the best time. So if you ran 150m more than you can think of it that either it cuts the 1st 150 or the last 150m (but i guess it could even be that it cuts the 1st 47m and the last 103m) I think that's why the activity's numbers and the PB-s numbers are not always exactly the same.
