Garmin please stop with blinding white background screens, give dark option

Fenix6 series is a REALLY nice watch, over a decade of Garmins this is the watch I always wanted and mostly how things should work.

Except holy hell, what is with the default displays having a nice black background for great contrast and then switching to BLINDING low contrast white inside?

The load screen, great design, great contrast, black background easy on the eyes and can be read by old eyes easily.

Then BOOM the next option is blinding white, not even matching the UI design?

Same thing for weather, GREAT first screen, then BOOM blinding white details?

All over the watch, vo2max, activities, everything. Black default and then blinding white.

Allow us to force always black background or an inversion of the white with the light toggle or something, anything.

Garmin needs to sit down with a visual disability team and go through the entire UI and fix all the white backgrounds and tiny fonts like on the heartrate summary for an activity.

I don't suppose there is a hidden option anywhere for people with contrast visibility problems like android phone/tablets have?

  • It may have something to do with whether widget glances are on or off and the firmware version installed.

I have glances on and all my screens have a black background, no matter how deep I dive into the details.

I've toggled glances off and still all screens are black. I think this was a thing in the distant past, with older firmware, but seemingly not any more.

FWIW I factory reset my watch yesterday, so whatever my watch is doing, it should be the default behaviour. I'm on latest firmware - 24.10.

  • Thank you for posting that image! That's amazing as I've never seen that black background.

So it does exist and Garmin can/does do it, we just do not know how or why it picks what background.

It's not the time of day or sleep/DND mode, I know that much.

Maybe it's a backlight toggle, would be neat if the mode can be permanent changed by pressing the backlight enough times just like the developer option in system.

Hoping some Garmin rep lurking around here can ask the developers to look at the code or otherwise explain how to force dark background mode?

I know I have it set in activities for black background with purple accent but it doesn't obey that for widgets/apps

  • Yeah same white background for me but your font is nice and thick on the HR breakdown

See that "Load" line on training effect, I CANNOT read it at all on my 6s with my bad eyes with the white background.

Would be fantastic if it was black background with white letters.

Your pro titanium is also 240x240 ? Or is it 260x260?

Look at how nice and large it was on the 5-series, I guess zones numbers can be left out but then why make the time font so much smaller if there is more room?! Weird logic. They need someone to comb through all the screens for visual disability, purposely put on blurry glasses to simulate and try reading!
