Battery life improvements in software 24.00?

I just noticed that my battery life has improved with software version 24.00 on my Fenix 6X Pro Solar. But I'm usually running alphas/betas, so I don't know if there are differences in battery usage for alphas/betas compared to production releases or if its real battery life improvements in 24.00.

Anyone else who have noticed changes in battery life after installing 24.00?

and/or @Garmin-Jimmy, do you know if alphas/betas have different battery usage than production releases? Or, if there are improvements in 24.00 regarding this? Nothing mentioned about it in the release notes.

See a screenshot of my battery usage the last days:

  • Me ocurre igual que a ti, es mínima la mejora pero también tengo la sensación de tener una reducción muy pequeña en consumo diario, Garmin Fenix 6 Pro, aunque considero que sigue siendo elevada en computo diario para tener todos los sensores desconectados excepto Bt y FC

  • As per my more detailed reply in our other conversation - My battery life is better than the recent alphas and betas, but it is short of advertised performance in smartwatch mode and not as good as older firmware, specifically 16.70.

I don't have sufficient data to be conclusive about drain during activity, but the little I have suggests that activity recording is also on the high side.

  • hmm. Good question but no official answer. The battery consumption is being monitored along the way by the engineers that are working on the software.

  • this may be a "stupid" question but how do you export your battery usage into an Excel spreadsheet? Thanks

  • is doing some sort of manual or automatic job.

Take a look to the Alpha/Beta Public discussion Forum, there a Thread started by him.

  • I have created a simple tool to parse the Debug\usage_hrly.log with some extra calculations. Then I copy the results to Excel to make it more visual. Takes a few minutes for each log file. If i find something odd I can crosscheck with usage log to see more details. Would be nice if usage_hrly.log had all the data types which are in usage.log but the log file would grow faster then.

  • One week after charging my 6X Pro Solar to 90% the watch was down to 40%, so exactly 50% lost in one week (accurate to within an hour or two). The only recorded activities were a 50 minute walk - call it one hour with GPS soak - and less than 30 minutes on the treadmill using virtual run.

I would expect roughly 50% loss in one week with the following usage....

    7 days smartwatch = 33%

    7-10 hours indoor bike = 7-10%

    3.5 hours walking = 6%

Current performance continues to fall short of historic performance. 50% lost with almost no activities recorded. Not meeting spec!

EDIT : 22 hours since charging to 80% the watch has lost 11% already. I recorded a walk with GPS running for about 2 hours including soak time. The walk should account for 3.3% of the drain if Garmin forecasts of 60 hours GPS recording are to be believed.

There is some very bad maths or some truth stretching about battery performance. The estimates are unrealistic. I still believe the firmware is to blame. However, rolling back is too disruptive, so I look forward to a fix in future firmware.

Oh, and a response from Garmin would be nice too. Too much silence on the topic.

  • I'm seeing a huge battery drain in Fenix 6 with the new update. Battery consumption has doubled in outdoor activities. I've never seen this consumption rate in the two years I've had the device

  • I am sorry. Such a sudden difference is incredibly frustrating. If these troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, please do not hesitate to reach out to Outdoor Product Support in your region.

    Please try the following:

    - Restart your watch

    - Hard reset your watch by holding down the top left button until your watch shuts off.

    - Reset it through the System > Reset menu.

  • Isnt it better to contact Garmin before doing these steps? Would be great if Garmin found the root cause for these battery drains.
