Fenix 6 Pro stuck in middle of an update

My new Fenix 6 pro is stuck in the middle of an update (to release 24.00.) After a couple of hours of no progress I powered it off by holding the Light button down for 30 seconds. That resulted in a black screen followed by a blue triangle. Then a new update started and got stuck at the same place.

Rinse and repeat ad infinitum.

This watch is just over 30 days old so past the Amazon return window. What can I do?

Incidentally after this happened I tried to connect the watch to Garmin Express. That's not working either.

I tried that. See post above. The watch doesn't entrer Service mode. It just starts the update again as soon as it's powered on.

Again, done that. The moment the watch gets power it starts up again and goes into update, then gets stuck. Windows File Explorer doesn't see the watch as a storage device (as it did before this issue began.)

Was the update offered in Express , or did you download it (Beta/Alpha) manually and copy the files to the watch ?

The update came via WiFi. I saw something on the screen about it starting automatically. I let it proceed on its own. I was within WiFi range throughout.

Yes, just tried it. As soon as the watch gets power the blue triangle comes up and the update restarts.

This reset will clear all settings, user profile, records, activity history, Connect IQ content, and other data.

It is recommended to read the steps in full below before performing them.

Ensure the watch is powered off.
- You may need to hold LIGHT for up to 30 seconds to turn the watch off.
Press and hold DOWN, START/STOP, and BACK/LAP.
Press LIGHT to power the watch on while holding these three buttons.
After the first beep release START/STOP.
After the second beep release the remaining buttons.

Yup. I've done it before and just tried it again.

At step 3. the blue triangle comes up, then the update restarts and gets stuck mid way. There is no beep.

I appreciate your help. And yes I was careful to follow the steps properly. (This isn't my first rodeo. I've been in IT for decades, including a stint in support ;) )

I've now emailed Garmin support for assistance. Hopefully I'll end up with more than <s>smart</s>brickwatch.

An update.

I reported my issue to Garmin. They sent me to fenix 6 Stuck on Blue Triangle. That's essentially what darnich posted above with the addition of a link to request an exchange watch if the reset procedure doesn't work. I've now done that.

The procedure is quite slick. They found my name and address from the watch serial number I provided when I registered the watch. Then they created a prefilled, prepaid return waybill. All I had to do was put the watch in a box, slap the waybill on it and drop it off at a UPS store. Hopefully my "recertified" replacement watch will arrive in a few days.
