Fenix 6 Pro stuck in middle of an update

My new Fenix 6 pro is stuck in the middle of an update (to release 24.00.) After a couple of hours of no progress I powered it off by holding the Light button down for 30 seconds. That resulted in a black screen followed by a blue triangle. Then a new update started and got stuck at the same place.

Rinse and repeat ad infinitum.

This watch is just over 30 days old so past the Amazon return window. What can I do? 

Incidentally after this happened I tried to connect the watch to Garmin Express. That's not working either.
