Broadcast heart rate with chest strap during activity only works if you toggle off and on

I run my watch for indoor trainer data capture, along with ipad to manage trainer software (Trainer Road).  I use a polar chest strap which the watch connects to.  I have wrist heart rate set to broadcast during activity, which will send the data out via ANT (yes I have an outboard ANT to BT converter which allows the ipad to see it)

When I start a ride, the watch connects to the chest strap (green lights off confirms its using the strap) but it is not broadcasting even though the switch to broadcast is "on".  It will only do so if I turn it off, then on again.

Anyone else see this behavior?

  • I;m not familiar to Apple environment and Ipad but I wonder - why do you need to broadcast if from watch? why not connecting the chest strap directly to the Ipad, along with the connection to the watch?
this is what I do on indoor trainer sessions - connected to the F6 and also connected to Zwift, Tacx App on my (Android) tablet

  • if you have a h10, you can connect to 2 Bluetooth on top of ant. just connect the strap to the ipad and do not use the watch to broadcast. tis is what i do. i have a similar setting.

  • It will only connect to one at a time.  If I start my ride first on the trainer road app on the ipad, it takes the connection but then I don't get the data to fhe Fenix.  If I connect to the Fenix first, and broadcast out, then both get the data.

  • then something is wrong in your setup. i have used trainer road. i am currently using trainer day on my iphone. i have my polar h10 connected to the iphone via Bluetooth and connected via ant to my Fenix 6. works like a charm. you are not doing it right. use Bluetooth on the ipad, no need for ant for the strap.

  • the H10 supports two simultaneous BT connections.  Non H10 doesn't

  • Bringing this up again as I think it is a bug.  Non HR10 (Polar chest strap) works perfectly, connects perfectly to the watch....no issue here.  Settings on wrist heart rate are set to broadcast during activity.  First it is strange that you go to wrist heart rate to set broadcast for chest connected device, but whatever.......When activity starts and after chest strap connects, my external device does not see the broadcast.  You must go into sensor settings, go to wrist sensor, go to "broadcast during" and turn it off, then on again.  Data immediately is seen by the external device and all is fine.

    1. Activity seems odd / bug

    2. Not intuitive - Why not have a "broadcast during activity" setting on the options for the chest strap settings under sensors and accessories?
