VO2Max bug repport

Hi !

I'm here for repport a bug on garmin tactix delta in version 23.00.

Since April 2022, my training status no longer works because my tactix delta no longer measures my VO2Max.

I run 3 times a week with and without any change on my part it no longer works... .

I want to clarify that I am on a Facebook group that talks about Garmin watches and that I am not the only one to have this problem.

I have already reset the watch.

If anyone has a solution, I'm interested.

Thanks in advance.

  • I am sorry there is an issue.

Please refer to this Support Center article:

My Recorded Activity Did Not Update My VO2 Max Estimate

What Is VO2 Max Estimate and How Does It Work?

Researching on our end, there are no active reports arriving worldwide from Fenix 6/Tactix Delta series owners using the same v23.00 software. In general, when a watch is not providing VO2 Max, it will normally be resolved.

If the content of the Support Center articles do not resolve your issue, there are 2 troubleshooting steps.

    1) Hard Reset: hold down your top left button until your watch shuts off then let go.

    2) Reset Settings: Resetting All Default Settings

If your watch does not provide you VO2 Max after attempting to regenerate VO2 Max after another week or two of training, please reach out to Outdoor Product Support in your region.

  • I think I've found the problem.

My max HR are at 202 bpm, my rest HR are at 42 bpm so 70% is 154 bpm.

Today i've make a 10km at 4"58 (my personal record) and my watch said that my average HR is 153. It's impossible, and so it's logic that the VOMax was not calcuated because i'm not at more than 70% HR during more than 10 minutes.

On a french facebook's page, they are other people with this issues. I think the problem are with the optical cardio. For me, i think the value of heart rate are wrong.

When I make a split session (since i've the problem of VO2Max) my watch said my max heart rate are 174 ...  It's not consistent ...

I don't have the possibility to use an other measuring device of heart rate. Do you have a return for tactix delta or fénix 6 user's on a wrong measure with the optical cardio ?

    Thanks in advance.

  • In the past while doing 10s sprints I had similar problem with optical heart rate. Basically when going full-out watch got lost and some times instead of showing my HR up it was doing the opposite like showing 90bpm while i was i max speed sprint :D. Optical sensor don't cope good with sudden changes. However I never had issues with stable pace run or some longer interal sessions. Now i use chest strap (that i bought for sprint sessions especially).

I assume you max HR is correct. But maybe try doing a field test ( watch it self might not auto-detect correctly). If you Max HR is wrong in the watch you won't have correct results. Also sometimes watch changes itself Max HR for no reason while updating Lactate threshold or something. So it is good idea to check regularly in devices settings if all is correct.

Other thing might be watch placement. It should be above wrist bone and tight ( but not to much) so maybe your's was too loose or too tight.

Otherwise maybe a bad/broken unit ? Idealy If you have a friend witch cardio watch or strap you could compare by wearing both in single run that could help rule out the idea of broken sensor.

  • Today I'm going to buy a "HRM DUAL" sensor, to have good data during my split sessions and have other metric same Lactate threshold.

I also tried resetting the heart rate ranges and max heart rate to let the watch handle them on its own. It has already lowered my max heart rate from 202 to 194.

I think that coupling to a cardio belt would improve the measurements and allow for better data, wouldn't it?

  • If you want more metrics i think HRM pro will be better as it will give you running dynamics like Left-Right balance etc. personally I find it useful sine apparently i was spending more time on left leg that right so now i'm trying to fix my balance.

For Max HR If I were you i would try to test it myself. There's lot of different ways to test it ( 4x 2min1min splits, or run up the hill or just go all our on 5k/20min run). My I got my current max HR by running a benchmark run 5min hard run in one of the garmin coach plans. Just be careful not to run to fast because you might burn the muscles before reaching max hr (I actually did that 2 weeks ago and had to make a week break)

That being said the auto-detection of max HR today gives me values of 196-197 which are correct for but it always changes the hr zones setup's so i've turned it off and kept my last max Hr I had in April.

yeah for spits the strap will be definitely better. You you can buy hrm-pro more stats will be there :)

  • Hi there ,i also have tactix delta solar and my vo2 max didn’t change since last year , eventually came with this something is wrong about my watch , after all i got a lot progress  in running Raising hand tone4my 5k record .
