Time in power zone not synced with Zwift

Hi guys,

I train with a Garmin Fenix 6 watch and connect it via Bluetooth to my Wahoo Kickr Core and Zwift App which runs on my laptop. When I start up Zwift I see all the sensors connect. Power/watts, cadence is measured from my Wahoo Kickr Core sensor and heart rate is measured by my Fenix 6 connecting to the Zwift app.

I noticed that while I’m riding, the power shown on my watch seems to flash on and off as if it were disconnecting and reconnecting every few seconds. But data for my heart rate, cadence, speed etc, all show correct as per the live data shown on Zwift.

I have no idea why the only issue seems to be with Power, but looking at my “time in power zones” (Garmin connect app) after a long Zwift session shows only a few minutes spent in each power zone. Whereas my “time in heart rate zones” does add up to the total time spent riding. So it seems like power is not connecting properly to either Zwift or the Wahoo Kickr Core.

Any ideas on how to fix it, greatly appreciated! Note I did check my app for Garmin Connect is updated.

thanks

One of the limitations of Bluetooth sensors is that they can communicate with only 1 device at a time.

My guess is that the Zwift app on your laptop is fighting with your watch for control of the BT channel with your Kickr, and the connections/disconnections you are seeing are the outcome of this fight.

My advice would be to pair the F6 with the Kickr over ANT+ instead (ANT+ supports multiple connections). To do this:

    1. Delete the current pairing of the Kickr with the F6.

    2. Open the Zwift app and connect to your Kickr as normal.

    3. Then pair the Kickr again with your F6. As Zwift will already have taken the BT channel in step 2, your watch should now connect to the ANT+ channel instead. I'd recommend pairing it as a power meter, rather than an Indoor Trainer, so that Zwift will control the resistance of the Kickr as the terrain changes, and your watch will just record the power.
