Check golf course data

Is there a way to check the golf course data?

I visited a course and my Garmin Fenix 6s Pro had an old course layout.

I was with my brother who has the s62. His was fine layout wise.

His also listed red yellow white tees. Mine only listed ladies and men's.

So his s62 was much more accurate on this round. I didn't realise at the time but the s62 and fenix 6s pro have downloaded and pre installed courses. The Garmin connect download does nothing.

I've since now connected to Garmin express and there was an updated download which came down. I hope it has now updated said course but does anyone know if it's possible to check a course? It actually would be handy before visiting new courses etc. I'd like to check this now resembles the tees and layouts my brothers s62 did.

I'm really hoping that Garmin don't maintain a different database per device and they all share a common core database of course data.

I'd like to think Garmin golf app (on Android) also pulls the same information.

Does anyone know if they do all share a common source which means if on golf phone app, and device up to date they should all match? Or if it's possible to check a course on a given device when not near the course.

Thanks

  • I would assume they should all match. I can't imagine Garmin would have a different database of 41,000 golf courses.

That said - I would suggest deleting the course off your Connect App and re-downloading it.

  • Cheers. I would think so too common data wise. Just be nice to know officially the Garmin golf app can be used as a check for how the course will play on the watch since no way to check it first.

Re downloaded. I get no impression downloaded courses on connect overwrite the course in the database on the phone !? Do you know if this is how it works? I got the impression the preloaded devices get their update from garmin express when all the map and course data is updated.

  • To Chris - Garmin.

Is there anyway if Garmin Connect that you can see the golf course details stored on your watch compared to the current course stored at Garmin?

If I'm visiting a couse that I haven't played for ages, I never know if I need to update it as I wouldn't know if the course has changed and/or new course has been uploaded and stored at Garmin Connect.

  • I didn't want to seem like I'm ignoring you or this topic - but unfortunately I can't answer those questions. I have no idea how updates and overwrites might be done.

  • Cheers pal. No problem. Be nice to hear it from Garmin once and for all though so it isn't just a thinking and guessing game.  can you comment at all or please find out for us? How are courses handled on fenix when they are pre downloaded. Do connect downloads do anything? Or is it a case of update via express only.

  • Since you own a Fenix 6 series Pro model watch and all worldwide courses are stored on it, Garmin Express will be used to bring all of your courses up to date and in line with what you are seeing on the Approach S62 you mentioned.
